ah halo :angel:

I always loved the origional halo map, and had fond memories of the close quarter combat.

So far im pretty confident It'll be finished in a weeks time for testing.
Ive tried to stay as true to it as I could.

Looks really good.

Perhaps a bit brighter? Try using those cool blue Combine spotlights that are in Lockdown and all over the place in HL2 SinglePlayer for an easy, good-looking lighting solution...

Just select the combine lights (and associated light / sprite entities) out of c17_trainstation, make them straight, then make them into Prefabs.

You can then use the prefab in your map.

looks nice dude.. soes look a bit dark, but is that just coz of the sreenshots? is it brighter in game?
 
the screens seem a bit darker than it was ingame, but ill crank the lighting up before its released anyhoo.

Excellent atmosphere in your upgraded version. I must say though, the atmosphere looks very depressing and dark. Might want to add some atmostpheric lights to go with your atmosphere.
 
looks really awesome. looks like in halo there may be some fog in there so you should maybe add some fog, not a lot but a little bit of atmospheric fog. I will definately play it though i must admit, you may get a little more attention if u dont tell people its a halo port. :p
 
Gj.... now do zanzibar for ctf and maybe make it bigger and add a few underground tunnels? no? ok

There's no fog in that level, or any of the multiplayer levels from Halo.

To all the people complaining about the lighting

I think the lighting is great how it is, (Dark, depressing) Prisoner(the halo map) was based off of a "futuristic" prison. Last time I checked Prisons weren't bright happy places.

The Map looks great.
 
In my humble opinion, I don't care if ports of maps look the same as the original.

Halo has rather old graphics, so I *welcome* a completely redone map.

If I were making a port of a Halo map I'd stick blue combine lights everywhere, add water to the floors, put giant windows... anything... besides, who really cares where the map came from? It's better to steal a layout, make it look completely new, and call it something *different* that resembles the name of where it came from, just a hint for those who know about it.

Btw, a warning about dark lighting - it may look good, but statistically speaking, bright, beautiful maps (with contrast between dark and light) are far more widely accepted and far more enjoyable to weary minds everywhere.

Dark looks good. Bright and beautiful can look better.

A suggestion...
 
WOW that port is amazing!! As your next project I think maybe Blood Gulch would be cool! Keep up the great work!!!

I'd like to see Rat Race.. but that's probably just me.

Nice, but I would go for some more curves in the geometry. Especially the pars in my attachment. Remember, it's possible now, no need to stick to the bland Halo geometry. Make it more playful.
The other parts are already pretty curvy, but this seems to blocky imho.
 
you see id really love too, but it performs great at the moment, smooth as a babys bum fps wise. i might do that in another release, but like Johnny's this is pretty much classic, too much brush geometry may end up screwing with performance, id have to experiment. I'll make it look as nice as i can, ultimately im trying to replicate element's of prisoner's gameplay.

It may not be bungies engine, but those jagged edge platforms are part of the classic feel to the map ;)
 
If you like you can always release two versions, one as it currently is and a 'revised' version if you will putting some of PVT's suggestions to good use.

Looks very cool, a job well done.

rounded corners would kill the atmosphere of the map tho.

perhaps you could do "chill out" next instead of a more long range map like BG, Chill out would be a good one to do all curvy.

just some thoughts..
 
One of my fav halo maps,is soon to become one of my fav hl2 maps.Some lovely open rooms there,perfect for chucking nades at people.

Any chance of adding the blue sticky nades from halo too??
 
yes a camera is in the map, players on the top levels (if they can find time to look at the big screen), can see players moving around in blind spots below.

sticky nades , hmm, that ones for modders.. good idea though.

as for a next map, blood gulch came to mind, but im not too sure it will work with HL2DM , as buggy's dont work aswell online. a large map like that needs veichles. I considered 'hang em high' before I started this, another was 'longest' the map with the two adjacent corridors split by a wall, Id like to do longest, perhaps battle creek, Ive seen another attempt at battle creek, its cool, but It could be way more accurate, geometry and texture wise + better lit.

That would hafta be a mod....hmm Halo source thats a really cool idea!
 
El finito. Spruced the centre feature up and added a few new rope features to touch up, everything works perfectley as far as ive tested, I'll upload it later tonight.

Should be fun, too. Lots of vertical combat, and the RPG guys stay on the ground floor, where I want em'. :hmph:
 
The reason why I asked if you were putting a camera in the map was because the original map didn't have a camera, which would sort of change the gameplay, and I personally think it would be cooler if there was some combine geometery in that area.

but I must say, the map is looking swell.
 
Who cares cameras rule and RPGS drool, jk. Anyways the map looks awesome and you took a great map and made it better!

right clicky, Ive got a tank of a firewall, so currently I cant create my own dedicated server properly. So if anyone wants to create a server, that wud be cool :).
 
Clarky, to finish this map off you HAVE to put in some light rays coming through the open windows. The map already looks awesome, but putting some of those rays in would be like.....sweeeeeet
 
Ill be sure to include those when I do a revamp with added world detail.
