Do vehicles have a 3rd person view option?

like most games, I'd expect to see a third person console command

We don't know but I really hope so, especially if someone mods a flying vehicle into there

Third person might be easier, but if I can--I'll stick to first. It's far more immersive.

first person flying is the way to go (at least for me)
I would think a 3rd person cam is usually common place so you can proably count on it.

I find it rather difficult, and because I'm too lazy to learn to fly FP, I'll drive that way, but not fly

I'm with DA on this one. Valve are going to great lengths to keep you immersed (why Gordon never says anything). I'm guessing that they aren't going to spoil it by giving you a third person viewpoint.

There will never be a third person veiw in Half-Life 2. You will always be Gordon Freeman, not some guy controlling him.

Mhm. They've actually said so, to. Besides, how are you going to shoot you weapon while driving if it's 3rd person?

its a nice feature in battlefield 1942. whether you are in a jeep or a plane. some people actually bomb better in 3rd person view. and yeah its not realistic, but neither is a gravity gun heh

As with HL, there will be a console command for it, but it definately wont be a natural or default part of the actual game.

I dont agree with the jeep, but yeah, the plane is so much easier with the 3rd person, cause you can actually see the target

yeah perhaps I should have worded my post differently, I meant the console command.
there will no be no leaving first person or loss of control in Hl2 Single player (without cheats/console commands that is) as per Gabe info.

THers shouldnt be 3rd person... its just not right seeing gordon :p

well my point is, there are no downsides to putting it in. 3rd person on foot is another manner cause you can get those precise angles and look around corners. but in vehicles its very hard to do.

im betting theres a variable for it with pitch yaw options and the whole bit, even though it might be disabled by default. because the devs would use it to test things

It'll be cool if it's able to be done in the engine/console commands. BUt it won't/shouldn't be a regular option in singleplayer. But it would be nice to have it in certain multiplayer/mods.

I don't think it makes it easier from my experience. I can fly lower to the ground and aim much better in 1st person. I am part of the body of the plane i can get a better understanding of where i am and what i can do with it. i do think the hud should not be there in flight though it really blocks the view.

To each his own, which is why they should impliment it, incase someone makes a mod with flight and some want to use it

I'm sure you can do it in source. but then, can't you do anything in it? :)

Well, considering Valve has said that any game genre can be made with the Source engine, I'd assume making a 3rd person perspective would be quite easy for someone who has the skills to make a mod.

I'm guessing that they'll have 3rd person, with all the related commands: pitch, yaw, roll etc. and maybe a few extras, like chase-cam... Although they may leave that to the modders. Some 3rd person will definatly be included (i think).

I hope that there is only a small vehicle part to the game. it would annoy me if a large part of gameplay was on a buggy or flying a plane (like Halo) because it isn't very fun for me.

Will be interesting to see how Gordon looks like in 3:rd person driving that bungee. No hands on the steering-wheel!

Q-Do you have a 3rd person view option in real life?

A-No.
