G-Man?

....Now before you answer, consider this, replayabilaty. Thoughout the HL games, the G-Man has been a constant source of mystery. Whenever we saw him, we would think somthing along the lines of, "There he is again, who is he?" He presented somthing the player would wonder about.

....If, however, we were shown his motives, and they were somewhat explanible, most, if not all of his mystery would be gone. We'd see him and be " Oh, it's him again" One thing that made G-Man so popular, beside what he does, is that we know so little about him. The mystery. Once we knew, G-Man would see like not a big deal. Possibly.

....Now, most people want to know about him, seeing as how he has watched us for our battle. But I'm not sure. I think the G-Man should remain a mystery. Not totaly, but somwhat.

I don't pay attention to him at all,if I see him,I go "woohoo,another G-Man sighting!!Too bad they don't unlock achievements"

Personally, I think we've seen far too much of him throughout the episodes so far.

Less is more.

The Gman is a sensitive issue.
If valve intends on revealing his purpose, then itd only be in the last ever Half Life game. Otherwise, the sequels wouldnt be neccesary - just dull without the mysterious Gman following our footsteps.

Valve would also have to make it dramatic.
Not him going up to us and say:
"Mr.Freeman, I am your financial advisor. I've been trying to have a talk to you about these records..."

The the camera would change to 3rd person and Freeman would go:
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

I wan't some answers on G-man because i'm tired of waiting and all those stupid theory's.

I met the G-man once and he disclosed everything to me: who he is, his background, whom he works for/has worked for, everything. Then he slapped me with a gag order and stuck me on this forum to regulate the theories coming through until such time as he finds a better use for me.

I'm beginning to think that time will never come.

I think they should reveal a good amount of info on him but still keep parts of him a mystery.

People only find him popular because they don't know about him yet. If we know we're never going to find out, we're going to get bored. And lose interest. Seriously, the fact that we keep being fed information over the past few games leads us to want to know more. It moistens our tongue... making us beg for more.

Nah, Imagine if you're on your death bed, and you have the option of finding out who he is, would you take that opportunity? I would.

Lol, you mentioned every time we see the G-Man. Somehow I missed all the places he appears in HL2 with the obvious exception of the beginning and the end. And I did see him with the crow in the TV during Anticitizen One.

I don't want to know all the answers in regards to the G-Man. I don't want to know his species, I don't want to know where his home world is, and I only want a vague description of who his employers are. I don't even want to know his actual name. Just keep his as more of a presence or force in the Half-Life universe.

Have we though, really? Have we gained any new information about the G-Man whatsoever since HL2? It's been a pretty damned slow character development process. I remember being really stoked at the Vortigant's 'capture' of him at the start of Episode One... ("We'll see about that...!") but that didn't lead to anything significant whatsoever, as he's free again on a technicality and back to his old tricks. What did they stop him from doing or making you do? The thing you were going to anyway? It seems that the actions you're taking are what the Resistance wants, what the Vortigaunts want, and what the G-Man apparently wants, so why were they resisting him, and what difference does it make that he's free or not? A hundred questions are raised with each installment of the game and none answered.

To answer the submitter of the thread, YES, I want to frickin' know about the G-Man, because I watched the entire X-Files series from start to finish and was left pissed off with the lack of a resolution to the thousand plots they started and never finished. I don't really want another one of 'those'.

You haven't had any answers, no. But what you have had is character development. I'm not just throwing the phrase around for the sake of it. You've seen that the gman isn't "all-powerful" for a start, the vortigaunts stopped him, and you also found he's a friend of Eli's as well. You know he actually speaks to other people, and he's not some sort of hallucination, and that he does actually seem to have some sort of agenda. He was there at the Resonance Cascade. While the answers aren't obvious, they're subtle, and they're can't be devleoped too fast, otherwise, again, you'll lose interest.

The fact is, Gordon doesn't know anything, so you can't know anything either, and no-one's willing to tell him anything.

As I said, all will be answered in due course.

Well, we saw him talking to a scientist way back in Black Mesa before the cascade so we know he's not a hallucination and that he was there for the events of the cascade; and we can reason from the statements made in HL2 about Gordon's 'contract' that others were aware of his involvement.

As for having an agenda, well, is it his own or is he still fulfilling a contract to some unknown bidder? Does the resistance hold Gordon's contract? If so, why were the Vortigaunts restraining the G-Man?

The only new thing we've learned in the past two installments was that the G-man isn't all-powerful, which should be obvious anyway considering that he sends a nerdy scientist to do his fighting for him.

Maybe the resistance could only afford Gordon for the task of bringing down the Citadel. What the G-Man was paid in I have no idea. Possibly the detailed plans of Eli's teleportation technology.

The scientist, for all you know, could've been a hallucination. We didn't even hear him speaking at that point. By now, we know the Gman does have a role and a voice. "Others aware of his envolvemenet", to me, indicates people on the Gman's level, as in other people we'd never have contact with, not regular people like Eli, the Vortigaunts and Alyx. Half-Life 2 has confirmed has brought the Gman to the front, making him interact directly with other people "on your level".

I don't believe the resistance hold Gordon's contract, I believe the "unknown bidder" or the Gman's superiors own his contract, and it is their best interest not to see the combine in possession of Earth.

Pretty Nerdy Scientist considering he can wipe out hordes of aliens and marines, navigate through hazardous swamps etc.
And the Gman has already stated that he can't get involved at any further level.

Edit: Didn't see the next page. Seems unlikely to me the resistance would be buying Gordon's contract... but I guess it's possible, and it would explain a few things at the end of Episode Two. From the looks of things, the Gman doesn't need Eli's teleportation technology.

Besides, Eli apparently having been under the Gman's control would have meant he'd have them anyway
