Do you believe in mental illnesses?

Well, it's not really classified as a mental "illness", it's a pervasive developmental disorder, or something like that. And you couldn't be more wrong, it can be detoxified. I have a few books, and other research materials, saying out right that detoxification can cure Autism. Cases have been reported where autistic individuals have toxic levels of mercury, lead, etc found in their hair and fingernails.

while the jury is still out on whether or not mercury may be a facor in developing autism it CANNOT be cured through detoxification. It's already too late as parts of the brain fail to develop properly. There is no turning back the clock.

Well, you could be right, I admit I'm not an expert on the subject as of yet. But I will say that the brain does have the capacity to develop all throughout life, albeit at a much slower pace than infancy. Although sometimes the damage is irrepairable. I'm not sure if you mean it cannot be cured through detoxification at all, or once the individual has surpassed infancy, when the damage has been done.

If you're suggesting the latter, I simply cannot agree with you unless you supply a credible source. I have read up vigorously on mental illness/developmental disorders, and detoxification has proved to work in some cases. Unless we are talking severe brain damage, detox can work, and has, from my knowledge. Also, did you know that the gastrointestinal tract has about a third of the neurotransmitters compared to the brain?. Bowel disorders have often been documented with cases of Schizo and others. This is a new and obscure line of research I am following, I will try and dig up the doctor's name.

I suffer from depression, and my grandmother has schizophrenia - which puts me in the "at risk" category of that :|

I have aspergus syndrome. Almost everyone else I've met who has aspergus syndrome is completely mind ****ed. Because of my Aspergus I'm socially retarted, I Can't subconsciously understand body language and people's emotions. I decided to study body language and was truely amazed at all the silent speaking people do and how it effects social standing completely. Don't get me wrong I'm not some loner with no friends, I'm just socially munted, doesn't necesarraly mean I have no friends. Although it's pretty damn hard for me to get to know females :naughty:, I'm supprised I'm not gay.

Oh noes you found a spelling mistake. *slits wrists* I'm not ganna proof read my post.
edit:
BTW Don't you just think that those blokes who walk around whineing about spelling are just as immature as 1337 CS kiddies?

My brother has Asperger's, and my parents suspect that I may have it too, I've never been diagnosed before though.

Adding on a bit, a good friend of mine suffers from paraniod schizophrenia, terrets syndrome and severe depression. I didnt even realise about the schizophrenia until she started off the school day as Mel and became Faith during the day.

Depression is all I've had, had a severe bout for around a month or two and it went away. Guess everyone gets it however...

Brain cells are the only irrepairable cells we humans have. Once they are dead or damaged, thats that. If by developing you mean learning, yea we can learn throughout life obviously, but damaged areas will stay damaged.

Damage is never repairable.

And what do you mean you are not an expert on the subject yet?

Are you headed to school to be a shrink? Or were you just trying to sound fancy?

But thats a good field to go into. Listen to people's problems at 110 dollars per hour, and from the way they act and what they tell you, you decide whats wrong with them and help them deal with life.

Wait, did she actually say it Schizophrenia, or did you just guess that was what it was? Schizophrenia is NOT split personality, they are two completely different things. It is a common misconception.

And VirusType2, no I meant something a little different than that. I mean our brains have the capacity to grow (not repair) through life. I read an article that states cab drivers have an abnormal amount of brain cells were the memory is stored (or something), and then it went on through the various professions, saying the brain can mildly adapt to the occupation it has chosen. I wrote that last post late at night, soz if I contradicted myself.

All I was trying to say was, as long as there is no brain damage, and the mental disease is caused by toxic levels of some foreign compound, it can be treatable through detox. You are right though, brain cells are irrepairable.

No, I didnt guess. I thought she was just being weird at first and then another friend told me she was taking meds for it.
