For me, porn simply was a valve to, umm, "release" my sexual tendencies I've never looked at women (or girls, for that matter) as objects because of it. THe human brain is far too complex for us to fully understand how pornagraphy affects it. Any side effects to porn can be linked to a great number of many things or to a more serious issue in which pornography was the means it was vented. IE obsession with other things. If it were not porn it would be something else. Pornography seems to be blamed for many problems it may not be the cause of.

On the flip side there is no way to tell if it's beneficial. It could in fact be the cause for many people to have trouble with relationships. People who don't go out and socialize may not be expeosed to healthy relationships and therefor when they enter a relationship their only knowledge of them comes from porn and what they have heard.

Really, with or without porn there are going to be problems. Society has enough problems such as our media, how women are portrayed(ie spraybrush beauty) and our ignorance of the rest of the world. Fix those before you take away a problem that may not exist.

I really connected with the not trivializing but strengthening of a relationship, when sex is adopted in that way, it's an incredible feeling of unification I think.

Sure I watch porn here and there, but I think I would dump a woman if she had a problem with it. To me it shows she doesn't have a clue and is very insecure about herself. Not someone I want to be with. I can't think of too many men that don't have a couple magazines stashed away or visit certain types of sites here and there. I realise that most porn stars probably enjoy their jobs quite a bit, and that most people who raise objections to the treatment of women in porn are not porn stars themselves, but this is a moot point since the grand majority of women are not going to become porn stars, nor do they want to, and as such porn stars can't set the bar for what sex should be for society as a whole.

Ultimately, though, pornography is a positive force in our times, even if it has negative qualities that cannot be ignored. Pornography does serve a purpose for both sexes, and can serve to introduce new concepts and ideas into peoples' love dictionaries as well as an outlet. This does not excuse it of its flaws, though, and ultimately, our acceptance of pornography may well lead to acceptance of all its negative traits.

Though you make very solid points, isn't it true that in some way society will always have some kind of "artistic" outlet in which to mock or reflect sexual tensions. If not for the porn industry we might have more and more people going to nudie bars or whore houses. I think it's fair to say that sex did not became less intimate because of porn, but because of people's attitudes - before the times of digitalized, mass distributed pornography people still had ways of making sex purely physical and removing the intimacy.

Apparently the stuff discovered in Pompeii was almost ancient pornography, depicting among other things, the sodomizing of a goat. I'd rather people fapped to porn then let out sexual tension in violent ways like that.

We have also seen a sort of decrease in orgiastic behavior, or so I think, ritualized sex doesn't seem to happen like you read about in your school history books. I do not think porn is really good or bad for society, but simply just part of the next step in sexual evolution - and a place for society to take out sexual tension.
