With all the healthcare talk going on, I was wondering how many people here actually are insured.

Wait for the poll maggots.

My mother's work gives her incredibly good healthcare. To the point where I don't think we pay for anything D:

I have dental insurance which I pay for myself, but no health insurance because that shits expensive.

My dental only covers 1000 bucks. So when I went to the orthodontist, and said I needed braces for ONE tooth, we said no. 4000$!!! BULLSHIT.

When I say one tooth, I mean that I would get a full set of braces, top and bottom, for one tooth. Thats what they said I needed. I'll just get all my teeth pulled and buy me some dentures.

My university pays for it because they last-minute added it onto my offer, which is extremely fortunate as my dad just lost his job so now he doesn't have health insurance to cover me (or himself and my mom for that matter). I don't know if that's considered my "employer" so I voted "yes, other reason." If my school didn't pay for it, I don't know what I would've done. I could maybe just barely afford it on my stipend if I had to pay for it myself. I think my school actually requires you to have either their or some other company's health insurance, otherwise you possibly can't attend.

Before this, I had no idea how expensive health insurance (and doctor's visits) were. Last year I had to see a dermatologist to confirm that a drug allergy was healing. The visit literally took 5 minutes and all she did was look at it and say, "Yep that's healing correctly." It cost over $100, which the insurance DIDN'T pay for. I had no way of declining to see her either, as I was on a steroid for the allergy which required you to slowly step down the dosage (stopping quickly was dangerous) -- and the doctor at the university clinic refused to write the prescription to get me off the pills until I saw the dermatologist.

So I really sympathize with people who can't afford health insurance. That's gotta be tough.

I needed to see a doctor to see if this thyroid medication was working. I should have seen a doc almost a year ago now (was supposed to see one before the prescription ran out), but I got kicked off my parents insurance and can't afford doctors visits, bloodwork and the pills, so **** my thyroid, its not getting shit until i get a better job.

i got the cheapest plan possible through work. also its like $30-45 a pay check which is a lot considering i don't get checked up for anything

I am employed and do not have private health insurance.

If i go to the certain general practitioners it's free anyway. All free at public hospitals free as well. I pay my taxes and the government supplies the health care. Brilliant system, utterly brilliant.

No free dental though. Our government are hoping to introduce some kind of dental cover though.

No, I don't have health insurance. My dad and his new wife are enrolled on some wacky MLM health care program that I think is complete bullshit called Ameriplan.

I have some medical things I want to get checked out.

I wish we could have some form of massive contributions to the health care debate from people in countries who have it. All we get are the cherry picked people and stories from people in those countries that think it's a gift from satan.

I have the same problem. My blood pressure meds are expensive as **** and my mom keeps telling me that I have to go to the doctor to get my script refilled.

**** that.

I have insurance under my own name, however my parents pay for it for now because I need it in order to live a decent quality life. Without insurance my prescriptions would cost me around $900 per month, not to mention doctors visits and other miscellaneous things. On top of that just recently a hospital has started hounding me for $2000 that I don't have for an emergency appendectomy I had there a while back. That's $2000 on top of the $13,000 my insurance already paid. **** those assholes who say that US healthcare doesn't need reform.

I'm not American so I don't need to worry about how much that sudden slightly worrying pain or rash will cost me.

But please, do continue!

I do hope that, eventually, some of the Americans on this board may know what it's like to receive healthcare.

This.

I lol when some Americans speak out against universal healthcare, I mean really, its like watching someone in quicksand saying they don't need rope because it will make things worse. You just gotta shrug and lul.

The Canadian health care plan isn't exactly the same as insurance . I mean its awesome how everything is free and stuff but you still might need an insurance plan for medication and procedures that aren't covered .

No frakkin' clue about general shit but I know I don't have dental.

Actually I have insurance both from my parents and my employer so I can take out double the sum should I get hurt...

... and I did get a work injury, so that's what I'm about to do now. (Got a scar in my face from falling on my bike when coming home from work, it was slippery as hell and I was carrying two planks of wood for some furniture and it went right in my face.)

Yes, it's universal. It's not completely free, but if your medical costs surpass like US$100 per year the state (or rather the regional authorities) pays for the rest.

Does getting it from the government and paying taxes count as 'yes and I pay for it myself'? Or is that 'yes, other reasons'?

This poll was clearly not designed with non-yankees in mind. Bad dog.

Thing is over here it's kind of a waste of money if you have any kind of insurance. It's basicaly a scam. If you have health insurance for example and you want to go to the dentist, you still have to pay the doctor on the spot. What's worse is that some hospitals are in such a terrible condition that you have to buy your own medicine/medical tools for the doctors there...:| I really wish I was joking...

wow, so far i'm the only one that gets it from an employer

I have dual citizenship. My dad is American and my mother is Australian. We used to live in America when I was young until it was discovered that I have a bone disorder. My first operation (and only as far as I remember) in the U.S was covered by my dad's employer. It cost them $20,000 USD

A year later we came to Australia because eventually the sheer cost of my inevitable future treatment and operations in the U.S would drive us to bankruptcy once my Dad's employer decided to either let him go because of the cost or if we somehow lost insurance.

I had a similar operation in Australia to the one I had in America about two years after leaving the U.S. It cost us $500 AUD. This would've been... either 93/94.

Because of the climate of insurance and healthcare in the U.S. I haven't been able to see my family over there for a decade. An entire decade.

It amazes and frightens me to see just how many people in the U.S have been brainwashed by corporate lies about healthcare reform.

Why are lobbyists even allowed near Congress in the first place?

Why aren't there laws in place that prohibits this kind of propaganda?

Isn't this an abuse of freedom of speech if you're blatantly lying for financial gain?

Why are people like Glenn Beck even allowed on television?

Why do people push for a free, unregulated marketplace when free markets have a history of exploitation, both humanitarian and environmental?

I know people don't want the government controlling everything they do, that's only a fair and natural reaction to authority. But why are Nike, Adidas and thousands of other huge commercial entities allowed to exploit overseas workers for under a dollar an hour and why aren't they held morally accountable for it by their government? Why do we turn blind eyes to these reprehensible acts?

So no I don't have health insurance, and even if I could get it, having a pre-existing condition would give me a 50-50 chance of having it revoked when I need it. Isn't that lovely?

wow, so far i'm the only one that gets it from an employer

I get it from my employer for $22 out of each paycheck. Pretty much everything is a $25 co-pay, which is awesome.

I have a concierge plan. I Pay the doctor an annual membership fee and when I need to see him, I never wait more than five minutes. No deductibles/co-pays and prescriptions are just a $1.
