Or even people you dont know?

Me for instance, everytime I hear Sweet Child O'Mine I instantly think of a friend I had back in Malaysia about 8 years ago.

Ex's or current girlfriends excluded, else this'll just turn into a soppy love-fest of a topic.

Songs I got from a girl who used to go in my class I very strongly link to her, loads of songs I heard at lans I associate with the people who were there and the events that took place. Gordon Lightfoot - If you could read my mind and anything by Johnathan Richman I associate with an english friend of mine cause she sent them to me, and I've got loads of stupid little joke-songs that always remind me of hanging with my best mate from school.

The Carpenters reminds me of my mum, 'cuz she likes them.
And I know it's not a person, but I link anything by Goldfinger to N+, the original flash game.

first real girlfriend I ever had and I made out "I'm feeling this" by Blink182, i always chuckle whenever it comes on.

Current girlfriend; "What are you smiling at?"
MFD00M; "Ermm... your eyes?"

I've got one song linked to a girl I know. And a few songs linked to those that told me about them, but it's a different type of link.

I generally link some songs to periods in my life rather than people.

BTW, I think this should be in the Music section.

Me and my friend Kim wrote a song about this.

Songs That Remind Me Of You

The radio still plays the same cliche songs,
But I can already tell I’ll be singing along,
Trying to find the meanings,
Trying to connect to the feelings.
Of someone else’s words
But it never really works.
I know that after not long,
My headphones will be filled with our old songs,

[Chorus]
They take me back (repeated)

First glances,
Slow dances,
Near misses,
Last kisses,
First glances,
Slow dances,
Near misses,
Last kisses

They take me back.

walking the streets at night
Looking for a familiar face or sight
I think of the day we met
talking over a cigarette
will you be there when i fall down?
will you be there when i fall down?

[Chorus]
Just take them back (repeated in the background)

First glances,
Slow dances,
Near misses,
Last kisses,
First glances,
Slow dances,
Near misses,
Last kisses

They take me back.

I wish it was easier but they only make it worse,
The same old chorus, same sad verse.
Trying to find the meanings,
Trying to connect to the feelings.
But they’re still someone else's words,
And it never really works.
I know that after not long,
My headphones will be filled with our old songs,

[Outro]
I need you and not the lines
They’re just memories, they’re just lies.
They’re not real and they’re not true
They’re just songs that remind me of you.
They’re just songs that remind me of you.
They’re just songs that remind me of you.
They’re just songs that remind me of you.

Get out of my lounge!

For some reason I never experience this song-association thing.

Usually it's just people who have told me about the song are the people I think of when I listen to those songs.

Example,

Squarepusher - My ****ing Sound (CrazyHarij)
Aphex Twin - Iketa (Eraser)
Kraftwerk - Autobahn (Eraser, and by previous parrot who flew away that day I first heard it :()

I thought this was going to be about sending urls of band websites to people you know.

The only song-associations I really have are the entire Oleander - Unwind album to the Soul Reaver games, and Dust in the Wind by Kansas with my mom... because she told me that she wants that song played at her funeral and it makes me horribly depressed every time I hear it now.

That's what I thought too. In which case, I do that, but only to one person I know. And sometimes he sends me songs, which I actually do link to him in the way the thread title means. Same with other people who give me songs.

I associate music with significant memories.

Like If I hear a song that my mom used to listen to on the car radio when I was like 10 - I remember sitting in the car, and my mom asking me how was my day at school.

Mostly Songs remind me of girlfriends.

Some songs remind me of rollerskating when I was a little kid - songs like - "I like that old time rock n' roll."

Some songs, like Rush, ZZ Top, and Scorpions remind me walking in my yard at my old house with my headphones on, when I was like 12. I'm talking like 20 years ago, and I still remember it pretty vividly.

Also when I was like 10, I snuck into my brothers room while he was at work, and played Van Halen, "Jump", and "Panama"... songs that were my favorite at the time, and I had never heard them on such an amazing stereo system. I was jumping on the bed and stuff.

Fun.

I also remember my first favorite song, about 25 years ago the song by Queen, called "Another one Bites the Dust" was my first fav, and for Christmas I got the single and a portable Tape player.

My first full album tape I got was Ozzy Ozbourne, "Bizzard of Ozz" and I remember sitting on my bunk bed, about 10 years old, listening to it really loud. It was so awesome, especially remember the song 'Mr. Crawley"

John Coltrane to this one girl... But... Now is not the time.

some of the time, yeah. I just hope it won't last forever in some occasions. The persistence of memory can be annoying.

This thread reminds me of one of my old mates who split up with his gf & purposely listened to music he hated, so as not to be reminded of the sour occasion through music he would of listened to normally! I think Sully (played by Jeffrey Tambor) in There's Something about Mary puts it best, "Hey... love will make you do f**ked-up things"

I will forever link Incubus - Pistola with the rush I had with my friends, running off from the ticketing counter after the concert when the security guard saw us. That was just awesome. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see my Incubus Thread.

Eagle in the Sky by ABBA will remind me of my dad, because he played it a million times when I was a kid, riding in his car. Hmm, can't think of any more at the moment.

I link a lot of songs to my best friend, especially a lot of emotional/love songs. Most of Adam Sandler's music and sketches remind me a lot of Helplife2.net, actually.

Yeah definitely.

I associate songs less with people but definitely with different times of my life.
