Get one of those hand cranked led lights. Like

I have one for two years, it's still serving it's purpose and i haven't even touched the batteries. The battery ones i have ran out a long time ago and now i don't even bother with them. With it i just grab it and use. If the battery is low i just spin it a minute and it's enough to do any short task. If the battery is completely empty and i need it badly i crank it while on so i have enough light for let's say a short walk. Otherwise crank it for 10 minutes and you'll have enough for most needs.

Basically it outlived all my other lights. Highly recommend it.

I knew Bosch made a quality one that was even water proof, but can't seem to find it. Most available are cheap Chinese products sadly.

Bought one of these about 2 years ago.

Theyre pretty much the only torch youll ever need. It never fails when you need it. Like 'Oh a powercut, I'll just get the torch by feeling along the wall to the cloak roam and...oh ffs the batteries are dead!'.

And theyre disturbingly bright. 'The power of a million candles!'

Bought one of the headband ones too. You dont disturb anyone in the tent at night, because it has one of those red lenses that flick down over the LEDs. Red light instead of white light.

i have 2 of those hand crank radio/emergency flashlights and i bought my grandma a twist flashlight for Xmas which doesn't use batteries. they come in handy when you need them

Is the flashlight for power outages, camping trips, or apocalyptic survival? Our camping headlamps use 3 AAA batteries, and last for weeks (maybe more?). For power outages, we have those flashlights that mount in the wall outlets, constantly charged and turned off while there's power, and that turn on automatically when power disappears (house is automatically lit and we have easy-to-find, freshly charged flashlights.

Not that I don't have a windup flashlight, but any situation where I'd be depending on that for my only source of light is the kind of situation where I'd fire up a propane lantern, drive elsewhere, or not sweat it because it's daytime.

This light is definitely not for homophobes.

I have never in my adult life felt the need to own a flashlight.

You don't need a flashlight, unless you're living in a third-world country.

it all depends on if your electricity is by telephone wire above ground or underground. since we live in an older area of town we need flashlights especially after the massive ice storm we got a few years back. the power usually goes down if we get 50mph winds and candles work but LED shake flashlights/crank radios and using Sanyo's Eneloop batteries are pure win.

We get power outages here once a year reliably, sometimes more (many miles of power lines, snow invariably finds a weak spot).

I've got one that acts as:

#1. Emergency Cell Phone Charger
#2. Emergency Siren
#3. FM/AM Radio
#4. Flashlight

All without the need for batteries. Just crank that handle for a minute and you're set to go for half an hour.

Of course, I rarely use it. There's no need. The entire damn world is so full of light.

I got a solar charged battery/standard battery, water proof, very durable flash light

it serves its purpose quite well

"flAshlight" made me think someone invented a device that was part flashlight and part ash-tray.
