Here's my advice: Throw that mac away, get a cheap $350 PC, and play HL1.

Then throw that away and get the mac back from the garbage yard.

I played HL2 first, then HL1, OPFOR, etc. etc. I don't really think that not playing HL1 beforehand would hamper the gameplay experience, but it wouldn't hurt to know who the **** Gordon is.

But wouldn't the Mac smell funny?

It was REALLY laggy. I don't know why, I tried to fix it but for some reason it was just unplayable.

Depending on what year mac you have, the drivers that are on your Mac install disk date to when the computer was made. I know when I first put the Mac install disk in to get all the drivers necessary, the drivers for my graphics card were severely outdated.

So say your Mac was made late-2007 (as mine is the late 2007 model 24" iMac), the drivers for everything on the Mac install disk date to whatever was the latest in late 2007. So now if I were to pop that install disk in on a fresh partition with Boot Camp, all drivers are already at least 2-3 years old.

It's an epic game. Worth fighting for. :)

When I first played HL1 because it came with my 3DFX video card I was absolutely blown away by it. I rememeber thinking to myself that it looked like a movie.

I tried playing it again a few years back before playing HL2 and I couldn't get past the first few levels before I got bored. I guess I got spoiled by advances made in gaming in the last decade.

I haven't played HL1 for years but I came back to it and instantly loved it. I just love the classic games and no modern day video game mechanics can change my mind.

you do need to play it to know it's story and what happened there
