will be a long game, I for one am sick of these shit 10-15 hour games, I dont know about you but in my budget i can only get 1-2 games a month on Video games, so i like my games to last me quite a bit.

its gunna be shoter than the origonal. its a trend I personaly dont like one bit. when they announce that sequels will be shorter they always make it look like a good thing. "the sequel will be shorter than the first game, which tended to drag on through the middle portion".

I didnt feel that hl OR deus ex lagged on at all anywhere. long = good.

You see Phat, problem is, it will be a long for a casual gamer. For us, who played online for so long now, it will be much shorter. Why? Well, playing against humans for years taught me a lot.

When I first played Half-life, it took me 3 weeks to finish it (was 5 years ago). Now I played it again, and finished it in 5 hours.

well i usualy cant play more then an hour or 2 of games, but i like games to last me a month or 2, so what if they are long? they can play them in bits.

Soldier of Fortune II was a pretty good game for being extremely long also. Everytime I thought I was at the end of the game, I get transferred to a whole new location. Had a good story too, Let's just hope Half Life 2 will have its originality.

From a couple interviews I've read I'm pretty sure that Valve said it would be bewteen 30-40 hours? I'm pretty sure that is correct.

Yes Long=Good, i though Dues Ex was too short lol i loved that game, and HL could be longer imo, i guess i just want FPS games to be more like RPGs.

No, I mean, it is not that Valve wants to make it shorter, it's that we are so good in FPS now, that we will finish it faster. It always worked that way, the better you are in something, the faster you can do it (generally speaking).

Whoever said Casual Gamers want shorter games is a bad example for PC, 90% of PC gamers are Hardcore games, i for one do not know 1 casual PC gamer, except those l337 asian pride kidz who pwn at Counter-Strike, they only play CS so i guess that casual....

it is supposed to be as long/longer than the first. it wont be 15 hours, probbaly more than double that.

try reading the valve info thread, the length gabe stated appears somewhere in there

I'd rather it drag on than be too short. Little kids like finishing games becuase they want to say "I beated da big boss!" but I hate it. I start hoping I'll keep dying and it will take me a while to do it, or I even avoid the game altogether becuase I dread finishing it. The longer the game the better IMO, as long as you get the feeling of moving somewhere and progressing toward your goal, not stagnant and repetitive (Think Halo's Library levels).

Yeah, but they're dorks anyway, let them play CS and not bother anyone else.

do i think u use too many elipses?............................

yes

Look at this way: There will definitely be expansions of some sort, like the High Definition Pack Blueshift Edition which came on as an add-on for Half-Life. And Multiplayer has infinite gameplay possibilities.

No, lots of them fit in with the popular clique and play CS and only CS because they are posers.

Yeah, it'll be long. I thought I read somewhere a long time ago it'll be about 30-35 hours.

Valve said a while ago something like HL2 will have 12 chapters, and each chapter should take 3-4 hours to complete. That equates to around 36 to 48 hours of gameplay for the average gamer.

where I live this is how gamers are look at

Gamers = Losers

and only some people play CS and are accepted, I for one dont tell people i play games alot so i did fit in when i was in high school, I only had 1 friend who played video games, and he was a console player.

I also find that games are getting too short, but usually there is one easy fix. The FIRST time you play the game, smack it up to the hardest difficulty. None of this 'i'll play on normal first then once ive beat it goback and play it on hard' just play it on hardest straight away, don't be such a pussy. You'll enjoy it a lot more :).

On the same point, the reason why these games seem to get so easy and you just sail through them is mainly IMHO crappy AI - even if you do not mean to you learn the traits and abilities of the AI controlled opponents and you exploit them. A good example of this would be - in Half-Life you see some of those alien slave thingies, they see you and make that noise so you duck behind a wall....hear it discharge, fire your shot and wash rinse repeat.

With any luck HL2 will have some of the most awesome AI we've ever seen, and if there is any kind of difficulty slider - i for one will be maxing it out in order to fully enjoy my gaming experience.

IRT Magicpants:

That one part in traptown were the Combine reloads right in front of you, without moving, kinda scared me. It'd be awesome if he would actually move behind the corner while reloading and then maybe peek around the corner and fire at you.

read the HL2.net game overview.
it says:

"The game has 12 chapters each taking 3-4 hours to complete, which will add up to around a huge 36 hours worth of playing time. There are no cut scenes in the game meaning you will play every second of the story."

i guess that's an answer to your wuestion?

It will be long, over 30 hours of fast action play.

but if you want to explore the game and its technology, it will take you at least 100 or more to finish it.
