Do you think that.....

HL1 is 8 years-old and still popular and a must-buy. HL2 is even moar polished.
I can imagine someone making a remake of it on a modern engine somewehre in the near future(*cough*bm:s*cough*).

I think there is a mod in devolopment called Black Mesa:Source and that looks very good.

I wonder if in 10 years Valve will be done with Half-Life?

Look what id Software did with Doom: They still sell their game, after over a decade! They did release the source code under the GPL, but Half-life isn't quite that old yet.

Half-Life is still regularly played. I think that HL2 will be the same (I'd be supprised if I didn't still play it occationally in a few years)

In 5 to 10 years time we might see Half-life3 so i will still be playing half-life then and hopefully for ever. \o/ Half-Life rocks the pc world.

I think that in recent years, mods have been a sort of ticket to immortality for aging games. With Gmod and Smod in it's corner, there's no telling how long HL2 will stick around. I don't know that it will be "popular" in the same sense that current release games are popular, but modding and emmergent gameply will ensure that large numbers of people will be running the game for some time. That said, 10 years might be a bit of a long shot. HL1 hasn't even been around for that long yet.

Most descriptive thread title ever, by the way.

Whether HL2 will still be popular... hard to say. Possibly HL2dm - people're still playing Quake I and UT99 and such - but eventually the single-player campaign will get old.

I think the Half-Life franchise will still be popular in 5-10 years, therefore HL2 will still be being played.

I doubt that. For one thing, it might take HL3 that long to come out. And, anyway, the Half-Life saga has an epic quality that will ensure platinum editions, expansions, and series compilations for years to come. Doom and Quake have both shown amazing longevity and neither of them has a fraction of the narrative appeal of the HL games.

There will be no Half-life 3

Ends in episodes. If im not wrong ep3, havent been lurking.

I'm sure I read there will be another full game off Half Life after the episodes.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Valve has been teasing a HL3 for too long too back down now... atleast without an uprising.

I just hope the hype and love for the franchise doesn't die down over the years, and people look at it as another way to squeeze life out of it for money, and make a horrible horrible game movie, a shitty movie game, and damn, even a musical, and then half life, the greatest game ever, goes out on a bad note.

No one ever said there won't be a HL3.
Anyway, why would Valve end the series that made them so succesful?

If the series ends with Ep3, then what would be the point in Ep4? We already know the ending of the series, no need to fight what's going to be defeated/win anyway.

It all depends on the feedback from the fans. If episodes 1-3 go over well with us when its all said and done they will probly make another trilogy of episodes or so. If we would rather have a Half-Life 3 then that's what we'll get. The way its going now i think most ppl would rather have a hl3 because the episodes are taking far too long to be released in order to be effective as "episodes."

I'm counting down the days untill they drop the bomb with a Half Life 3 announcement. Half life 2, the full game is what got me so damn into the Half Life series, and after playing episode 1, i kinda miss the whole immersive experience of a full-length Half Life game... without having to wait till the next episode. its not a t.v. show.

I read that the episodes are basically Half-Life 3. There is an episode 4 in production.

I think that Half-Life is like say Doom's life span.It will just keep on until there is no reason to do more with the franchise. They should make episode 4 and Half-Life 3 but after that then it is a mystery to us on what they will do.

I think Half Life will never disappear, it's just the best game ever.
