Well, if the first RC tends to be rejected for any game I fail to see why Half-Life 2 would be different. They'll always be something they've missed.

Redundant, do you think, we'll hear from valve if this happens, or will they hush again. We might get silence for another 2 weeks, then they'll say its passed on the 3rd without us even knowing the 1st or 2nd failed. The first RC most likely won't make it through. Valve can do all the in-house testing in the world, still doesn't change the fact that beta testers are human, and they can (and will) miss things.

I think Vivendi will overlook some of the small bugs just to get it out on time, but reject it just to spite me.

I'd guess at a 2nd or 3rd RC being accepted, a gold announcement by mid-October and a release by late October/early November.

Well, because it’s in Valve's hands and Valve isn't an "every other company" type of...company. Half-Life's first RC was accepted because of valve's sense of perfection.

Also, we have to consider steam's role in this. hl2 has steam on its side this time. They never had steam back in 98; so they couldn't even get the amount of feedback they got for hl2. hl2 is definitely bigger and much more complicated, but I think steam probably helped balance everything out.

If we see hl2 early, steam probably had a lot to do with it.
