Usually I have mouse acceleration on and do just fine but after a long break from FPS games I decided to try turning it off. Not sure what to think so far but it definitely stresses my hand more.

By default Windows varies the speed of your mouse based upon how fast it is moved. So physically moving the mouse 3cm will move the on screen mouse different amounts depending upon how fast it is moved.
This effect is also translated into FPS games which some players don't like.

I always have it disabled, it annoys me far too much.

No. I don't like any movement acceleration in console shooters either.

I don't really think there's a noticeable difference with it on for me.
But, I just disabled it in Windows so I'll see how it effects my gaming style.

I have a DPI selector on my G5 Logitech mouse. I can't stand slow reaction time/sensitivity. Which is one of my major gripes with FPSs on a console joypad. Some console FPS games don't have an option to adjust sensitivity.

No need for the Windows mouse acceleration option for me.

I guess most of you use a Logitech mouse? I have MX518 myself.

Mouse acceleration is a godsend. Without it, I'd either be aiming everywhere at once or doing 180s in under eight seconds.

where can I switch this on?
are you guys talking about "smooth mouse" like in CSS/HL?

Oh, is that what it is?

I've used mouse acceleration since my first PC. I thought it was something like hardware video acceleration, so I always made sure that it was checked.

Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> Mouse -> Pointer Options -> Enhance pointer precision.

I don't use any mouse altering things in any games. My mouse controls the same way in a game as it does on the desktop.

I'm old skool like dat.

I just had a game of CSS with it turned off. Had to raise my sense to 1, but man I ended up with the best score in ages. AND I got accused of cheating! Back to my former game, methinks.

I got the CPL mouse fix and it improved my CS 1.6 playing.

I hate "enhanced pointer precision". It makes me feel somewhat disconnected.

Didn't realise I've got it on but turning it off feels slow.

My brother in law's one is so hypersensitive, just putting my hand on the mouse and the pointer's already halfway across the screen.

Uh it wasn't enabled in the first place, and I never touched it.
I downloaded the registry fix but it changed nothing.

I never knew I had it on, unchecked the box, **** me that's slow...turned back on again.

You'll never get super accurate at twitch aiming with mouse acceleration on.

Low sensitivity and massive, low resistance mouse mat - the new func pad with the rough side being the best i've tried - is the key!

I'm going to have to try playing some games with it off....maybe I could get a bit better at my sniper shots or something.

Cheers on that. I can't stand people with leet high sensitivity.

Low sensitivity fails. I should never have to pick up my mouse at any resolution. I want to twitch and be able to move my mouse all the way across the screen.

I prefer a high sensitivity so I don't have to pick up my mouse when I'm turning around. So, yeah, I use mouse acceleration.

I never really looked into this. Turns out I had it checked (why isn't there a default setting for everyone, unless you change it?). Hm, maybe I'll see how I'll do with it unchecked.

I play on low sensitivity in games BTW.

Then you'll never be accurate ;)

MX518 come with two buttons (+-) I use it sometimes during CSS only.
