Updates to Day of Defeat: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The updates
will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:[br]
Source Engine<ul >
[*]Fixed some video cards being incorrectly set to DX9 when they should have been DX8. This would cause a significant performance problem for affected hardware
[*]Changed refresh behavior of server browser. Old behavior was generating too much traffic when list was not open
[*]Fixed bug where VAC would sometimes hold onto .dlls after a game had been shut down completely[br]
[*]Fixed a crash which could sometimes occur immediately after launching a game
[br]
Day of Defeat: Source<ul >
[*]Added the default mapcycle.txt to servers running Day of Defeat: Source[br][*]Fixed crash bug when using %s in your player name
[br]
Source Dedicated Server<ul >
[*]Fixed bug in dedicated server engine that incorrectly displayed their anti-cheat status (servers were showing as insecure, but were running in secure mode)
some browser cosmetic changes nothing really deep changed, lol I know its early days but I get annoyed at this great game being hindered by a few small issues with balancing, sluggish iron sights, hitboxes, fps woes (not for me really but the general concensus, I run it fine) etc etc

Sounds like the fix for that stuff that everyone was complaining about.

There's still alot of lag, even though everyones ping stays low. This is reminding me of Battlefield 2.

still over all very happy but....

Why do we always like to bitch about such awesome games? I guess we are just spoiled by Valve always doing such a kick ass job, we just all expect perfection! I agree that there are some tweaks that could make things better and I'm sure that they will be implemented in the next few weeks. All I really want is a pistol that I can aim!

Howso? I don't have lag in BF2. Well I have frame lag because I have a 9600xt I stupidly bought when I heard HL2 was coming out in 2003, but everything else is fine for me.

I think he's reffering to choppyness.

It's apparent on some servers, not all.

I haven't gotten lag since a few hours after it came out... at least, not significant lag. I figured it was sorted out for everyone, I geuss not.

I agree, something should be done about the ironsights and hitboxes, but I don't consider it imperative/urgent. The game is already far and away better than I expected -- way more fun than CS:S, imho.

Fixed my problem of not being able to use Mouse buttons 4 and 5

The KAR has a small bug, If you shoot it fast, The soldier will not reload the bullet it at all but it will still fire. There's a couple more bug's but I cant really remember.

is it just me or is the thompson impossible to use now? the bullets seem to go everywhere apart from where im aiming!... and i keep trying to bayonet ppl :( . maybe l8r on riflemen will have a choice between gren launcher and iron sights or normal nades and a bayonet.

All I want is a pistol period.

I think the loss of the rifleman's pistol is a great thing, it means that we are more restricted to play our classes role, mid-range combat, rather than also being really good at short range. This means when we meet an equally skilled SMG player in a small space they should win, which is how it should be, since that is what their class is about.

Dod:S IS NOT DoD 1.3. It's more like DoD 2, there may not be that many changes, but they have greatly improved the game so that teamwork between players of different classes is essential.

If you just want to play a game where you will be competant in all combat situations then go play CS:S.

Then again, members of the military were always issued a standard firearm for close range. CoD is still probably the most historically accurate WWII game.

I thought it was the hitboxes, but in fact it's the fire cones. They're huge! Unless you are using ironsights, even when prone, rifle bullets don't always land on the crosshair. It's really annoying, and not fun at all for those of who haven't got over the hump yet.

Man, and I still can't buy the game from the stores :(.
Here in the Netherlands, I can't find any store which sells Counter-Strike Source (with DoD S). Some sites state that it's coming on the 20th of October, and the other says 25th of November, really confusing. Do any Dutch people here know where I might be able to get it?

For hitbox complainers, heres a hint. Learn how to aim.
I don't care if it's hitboxes, inaccuracy, bad prediction, etc... but when I'm poking a man in the sternum with the barrel of my rifle I damn well expect it to hit him if I shoot. Sometimes it still manages to miss in that situation. I've already had it happen (or seen it happen to someone playing on a computer next to me) half a dozen times. Once you get into melee range everything starts to act weird. I don't know exactly what's causing it but that's the only gameplay issue I have.

I don't care about Historical Accuracy. In real war you don't respawn after a few seconds, can't use a mouse and when you are too near a grenade you don't go "ooh, pretty visual effects" :)
I fa game's accurate, bonus, but it really doesn't matter to me. All I want is a fun game with real teamwork, and DoD:S is :)

There's teamwork? I thought it was just more "your here, i'm here... and we all hafta go in the same direction" sort of thing...

do i really have to dod source ??
i already on the pakage and was was asked to pre-load dose that mean i can play when its realsed ???
what about the update that i was told it would unlock some files for dod source ??

Each class is only good in a handful of scenarios. Teamwork is vital. Really screws up pub gameplay though. :(

rrrg

DODS is awesome so far... im just really frustrated because it runs perfectly fine untill i shoot... i can litterially count the frames. i just want to be able to play with everything on low, that shouldnt be too much to ask for, my system isnt that bad. hope this update fixes it, then me and a bunch of other people im sure will be very happy.

um if you have a card like the fx5200 the settings will be set to dxlevel 90 anyway. Which isn't good since the card is crap. So you might have to do like I did and make an autoexec.cfg file with the command mat_dxlevel 70 or 80.

Wrong, up until the end of WWII and still for some years after, the pistol was ONLY for an officer or rear echelion personel. Most riflemen during WWII went to the front without a pistol, then picked one up from a fallen soldier. Others brought them from home (cough Patton cough). However, it doesnt feel as if DoD is lacking becuase of it, i find that it is really fun myself.

the bullets seem to go everywhere apart from where im aiming
As i am on the subject of realism... The thompson in real life was inacurate past 50ft, and even then, it "hit" the target, not near the bull every time. A lucky friend of mine had the opportunity to fire a fully automatic Thompson M-1 at a range in Las Vaegas a few years back. The target he was shooting at was a refridgerator. It was 75ft away. He hit it with 27 rounds out of his 30 round clip. He is a pretty good marksman, ive shot rifles and pistols with him and he does pretty good, so it is not just becuase he "sucks".

Use the SMG as it was meant to be used, close range spray and pray.
