Just wondering if anyone has heard anything at all about it. My friends said that it is pretty much going to be like HLsource in the sense that they arent updating graphics, but instead just moving it to the source engine. If anyone has anymore information, or if you have an idea when it is coming out, don't hesitate to respond. ;)

They will be slightly upgrading the graphics and releasing that.

The reason is that they don't want to wait and spend the time to upgrade to HL2, they will just do public upgrades and eventually be HL2, CSS quality... Things will be reworked/redone though, so it's not going to be a direct port, but it's not going to be an entirely new experience at first either.

The reason being was that most of the DOD team was working on HL2 or CSS and thus they had to spend all their time on that to get those out the door, but now they can start doing DOD work again... If you don't believe that then go into model viewer, and load up the Counter-Terrorist player model, and one of them is the guy doing a disco dance, done by a DOD animator :)

Oh there is a HUGE thread on the day of defeat forums where devs answer questions about DOD:S, not sure where though on the forums.

From what i gathered from the DoD forums, they were doing a complete make over, ala CS:S. For instance they are redoing the maps as well it was mentioned that they have rerecorded the voice comms.

So if i had to guess; most of the game will see an upgrade of some sort. New animations as well as new player and gun models. We may see the mortars introduced. Also i would expect the weapons to be tweaked and balanced, with possibly more secondary functions.

I wouldnt expect new features, but there has been alot of open ended discussion about what people would like to see in later stages and naturally vehicles are quite high on alot of peoples lists as well as more "open" maps ansd the return of bleeding/bandaging.

Just out of curiosity, doesn't remaking the game completely instead of 'porting' it over, ruin the whole point of how easy it is to mod for source, especially with old games? I came to understand that the three or so popular mods for HL1 [CS, DOD, TFC] would be 'ported' over as an example of how easy it was, and to bring the gaming community over to source. However, now it appears that they are not porting it over at all but recreating it based on the old game. What's happening?

I believe they are moving Day of Defeat to the source engine with graphic upgrades. Then, they are releasing DoD:2, with changes to overall gameplay, etc.

I just hope to see DoD2 one day and not just a half arsed port of DoD
