Yes you can indeed do that.

It really just gets on my nerves when people spend money on stupid shit they don't need based on a lack of knowledge.

People who have stereo inputs on their car stereos but buy an iTrip to listen to their iPod in the car.

People who spend money on "iPod extension cable!! omg!" when all it is is a 1/8th stereo TRS cable, selling for ten times the normal price you could find in an audio store.
 
I bought my headphone to headphone jack at Radio Shack.. Wait, sorry, 'The Source' for about $10. It's a good 5 feet. I bought it so I could hook in my MP3 player into my pedal/vox amplug so I could jam along to songs.

It's nice to know it has other uses!

Would I use Audacity to record? I'm guessing yes?

10 dollars for a five foot trs cable sounds pricey... Maybe if it was gold plated, which is not worth the money anyway.

15 foot for seven dollars. And yes I know you'd have to add shipping if you were to purchase it online. But I'm sure there's an audio store near you not aimed at ripping off clueless consumers.

No, my town is pretty poor (like 15 years ago there was a steel plant that gave the town wealthiness, it shut down and basically made the entire town poor, the town I live in right now is full of crack heads homeless people, run down buildings, all the businesses are going out of business) and the only stores are in the mall (aside from my local guitar shop, even the mall has no music store! yay!), and the only store to even deal with a little bit of audio is this one store, The Source (formerly Radio Shack), so eh, I already bought it, doesn't matter to me.

I tried to pick up strumming and stuff but then for some reason i never memorised my chords. But then i only tried like what, one week?

How does that sound though, because I was going to buy a guitar and a distortion pedal so I could learn to do some really basic stuff.

I've never owned a guitar, or a pedal and wasn't sure if it could be done so I made a thread called 'Guitar to PC'. I asked if I could do line-out from the pedal to the input on my sound card and I got lots of people saying it won't sound good and recommended I buy either a guitar amplifier and microphone, and record from that, or to buy this $500-$1000 dollar contraption.


So I was like **** that. I was going to buy the $180 'pawn shop special' 6 string and a metal pedal, and call it done, but this was looking like a $1500 investment.

If so, just get yourself a standard line-in/out cable and attach a 1/4" jack adapter onto the end(http://www.welovemacs.com/jamplug.html for an example), hook it into your amp and then run the lead into your PC's soundcard. It's a set-up that I use and is fairly decent for basic recording, although you may have to tweak your soundcard and recording software preferences to get the levels right and to reduce clipping.

I record using a 1/4" to an 1/8" plugged directly into my line-in on my sound card. It can be done. Just listen to my sweet, sweet recordings. Especially my latest one, which is up a few posts and completely rocks.

Yeh thats really all I do, the recordings are perfect quality because its direct, basically my band have a guy who is an expert on mixing/recording etc, so we send him samples to mix etc and he is very strict on the quality of the recording, I do direct into my computer and send, he has no problems with it.
 
Alright, Ill give you guys some of our earlier recordings from earlier this year, hcm and strafe will appear on the demo but both have been largely developed since our earlier interpretations of the songs (we all hate that recording of strafe now lol) Brap (yeh is electric drums) we have dumped since then, but will probably use the awsome riff at the end in another future song.

If it's the first thing, I'd just say learn tabs, play songs and start playing gradually harder songs.

If it's the second thing, I'd say do that for a while (tabs), then after you've got a bit of skill (and calluses), go here and learn the basics.

First memorize the chromatic scale:

C - C#/Db - D - D#/Eb - E - F - F#/G - G#/Ab - A - A#/Bb - B - repeat.

Notice there are no sharps or flats in between B and C, E and F. So if you have say E#, it's another name for F. likewise for Fb being another name for E.

Use this to memorize all the notes on the fretboard first, then it'll make theory alot easier. (So the smallest string is high E, pick it open it'd be E, first fret would be F, second fret would be F#, etc)

You see, I already know music theory like the back of my hand.

The problem is, I relate everything I know to a piano keyboard, not to the fretboard of a guitar. My biggest difficulty is translating what I know from the piano to the guitar. It's sort of like trying to speak a different language.

I don't nor ever have played Piano, and I do the same thing.. I have a keyboard and I know all the notes on it, yet I still associate the notes on the keyboard to the guitar. I don't really find it difficult, but maybe it's because you played the keyboard and I haven't.

Strafe is fantastic. Hey, your singer is outstanding. He reminds me of Kurt Cobain. If this guy sings that well all the time, then I like your singer better tbh

I love the style you guys went with in Strafe. Timeless.

Keep it up, and put some new stuff up here as soon as you can.

Well we dont really like that Strafe version anymore lol and yeh he is a great singer only getting better, you wouldnt believe how better he has got now lol. Well I wont post anything more until the demo is done, which I have found out wont be until mid september now, but its gonna have seven songs on it so should be worth the wait.
