Does anyone have problems running HL2 with Athlon64?

Since upgrading to an Athlon64 based system, Half-Life² doesn't run well at all. Random crashes, sound sometimes disappears, the options window becomes empty (with no options, lol), the background in the main window suddenly becomes blur (like during the loading process).

I've never had any problems with my old AthlonXP + Abit NF7 based system.
:(

Currently Steam does not support 64 bit, but now that XP 64 has gone gold I assume they will make a 64-bit version soon.

As always did you install the right drivers? Mobo, videocard? Your CPU does not have a lot of impact on the games graphics so it should not be causing any visual errors.

i'd agree, if you've got a whole new system it's really unlikely that the CPU would cause all the problems, like above check all your drivers:)

what I don't understand is that HL2 is the ONLY game / program where I'm getting any kind of errors.

I'll try older Catalyst drivers ... I've checked everything else.

have you verified your game files? sounds like you may have some corruption

go to start>>run, type in "steam://validate/220" and click run

yep, and after formatting my hard disks yesterday and reinstalling Windows, I re-downloaded the files from Steam

And I still get the same errors today

Fair enough if you've redownloaded them but it's still worth doing that validate thing.

I installed the Catalyst 4.12 drivers, and looks like it works now ... no errors so far.
