Mastrubation is the worst thing you can do when you want to sleep. It never works, instead it keeps you up another three hours or so.

It takes you 3 hours?
I can go in 5 mins.

Afterwards you feel very relaxed and sleepy and all is well.

I can go between 30 secs or up to an hour. It's all about the control.

Whenever I'm out of whack like that I just pull an allnighter and go to bed early the next night. Like I'm doing right now ^_^

LOL, I read this after "masturbate".

No, I mean you wont be able to sleep for three hours.

The amout of time it takes for me depends on the quality of the porn.

Try to meditate. just try. if you lie down in your bed, it will put you out really really fast

focus on your heartbeats or your breathing or something like that

i've always had a huge problem trying to fall asleep but this works every single time

You know. I've found a new thing if you can't sleep.

Try and remember everything you did that day, from when you woke up to going to sleep, I never get to breakfast, it puts me right out.

Listen to calm music.

Watch a really boring movie.

Count how many pixels you see on the tv screen.

QFT

This works when I don't want it to.

drink a few shots of something strong

for extra oomph drano is a great idea

I find that sort of thing actually helps me to get up aswell. On days when I feel like I have no reason to get out of bed... I give myself a reason :)

i wouldn't recommend sleep drugs as they tend to be addictive (psychological and/or physiological). I'm in a similar circumstance. While i was working 9-5 and it wasn't too cerebrally taxing, I would stay up until 2-3am regularly the last couple of weeks. Now i'm back in med school(class begins at 8am - ugh) I just started trying to get to sleep earlier and earlier. It's not something that will your body can automatically accommodate. Your body needs to adjust. I started a couple of days ago and it's slowly getting better. one way i was coping with staying up so late was that i was taking naps in the afternoons when i would get home. I stopped doing that one day last week despite being so tired. I waited until about midnight and then crashed.

edit: btw, there are lots of people out there with the "perfect" sleep solution. There isn't one. an aside: one of my father's specialties is sleep disorders. He told me that as people get older they don't enter stage 4(delta) sleep as much anymore usually until not at all [stage 4 is deepest of all sleeps]. If someone could come up with a drug to induce stage 4 sleep, you would become a god among men, or maybe put a stop to old people being so cranky.

Taking a sleeping pill, especially if it's just Tylonel PM or something, isn't addictive if it's only done once or twice.

This thread is Awesome.

Try letting all thoughts out of your mind. dont think about anything. Or only think about the word "sleep".

Read a boring book, or watch a boring movie. I fell asleep within 10 minutes of watching King Kong!

If you're constantly having trouble sleeping, why would you want a solution that you can only use once or twice? The point he was making is sleeping pills are not a good solution because if it works once, you'll be tempted to do it frequently... turning it into an addiction to sleep better.

People, this thread was over after the first reply.

Thread over, Solaris won.

Stay awake? That's what happens to me anyways.

EDIT: Bah. Nevermind, I thought it said what 'you' do.

Smartassness failure. :(

Isn't it the hormone prolactin that suppresses your feeling of being awake?

I can never do any of that sort of stuff. I also find it very hard to imerse myself in a book(though I read allot), maybe the 2 are connected.

Rub one out. Besides, if it doesn't work, it'll at least keep you occupied for a while.
