Does anyone know...

That might be true, but surely it would depend on the material. I think it would probably survive if the box was made of something light like cardboard, with a low enough mass. It'd be fun to fill a cardboard box full of headcrabs then fire it off towards a combine soldier, watching chaos ensue. :D

No matter what the object was made of the initial massive boost in speed from being fired would instantly "smoosh" the internal organs of any creature inside.

thats why when you jump off a building you die not from your actual body hitting the ground but your Brain (etc..) traveling at 90mph into your skull wich was stopped by the pavement..

Same with boxing, its the head being hit wich then moves so quickly that the brain cant keep up and sorta knocks around off the sides of your skull.

Shake your head realy fast and you get a headache becuase of the exact same principals, your brain is rattling about in there..

Dont ask how i know this.

What happens when you go skydiving...

ah nvm. I understand what you were saying. lol

If a headcrab where putinto a crate, it would infat stay in it if the create was shot, the only thing wron would be that the headcrab would not tumble inside it, you would have to program an acceleration factor that would tell the game to ragdoll the headcrab if its velocity is over "x" mph(kph). Otherwise after the crate breaks open it will be like nothing happend.

No, it's been stated by Valve that the physics system can't do anything like this due to the Havok 2's capabilities. Everyone that mods for Max Payne 2 know this very well.

I doubt this would be possible if a creature inside a box were alive, but i'm sure it would be possible if this creature was dead.

Source doesn't has this, but i'm sure Valve will add updates to the game to keep it enhanced.

actually thats caused by the fluids in your ears moving around, your brain does not move inside your skull, if so we'd all be dead by the age of 1.

Really.. I thought it was the brain...

It can and does move, though it is cushioned by a couple of layers of spongy tissue. Concussion can be caused by the brain bouncing quickly off the tissue layer, too quickly for the tissue to absorb the sudden force.

Ok, well even if the force of the manipulator firing would be enough to kill a headcrab, I'm still wondering if it would be possible to move an npc around in a physically simulated object. The headcrab/manipulator thing was just the first example that came to mind. No reply from valve yet though..

Actually, your question sounds similar to one asked about whether or not the player/NPCs would be able to step inside an enclosed vehicle and be moved along with it.

I think that answer, in the Info thread, was yes.

Really? The only info I could find in that thread was to do with NPCs and vehicles was about animation when entering a vehicle, but I'll take your word for it, as 39 pages is a lot to look through.

Yeah, took me four hours when I tried, and that was back when it was about thirty pages. It was either in there, or the VALVe ERC thingy.

I've looked through the valve info thread, and searched the forums, but I cant find anything answering this question. Does anyone know if HL2 will support entities (i.e enemys or other npc's) being moved around on top of/ inside physically simulated objects? I.E. would I be able to trap a live headcrab in a box, then fire that box away using the manipulator, with the headcrab still inside? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere

Ya, you'll probably be able to do this, with all of the physics, and all.....

in the beginning of H-L there is a dead scientist with a head crab on it. if you walk past it then it would turn into a zombie behind you

I'm pretty sure I saw this as well. However, I saw a "presumably dead" zombie on the floor, not a normal scientist. When you walk past it, it gets up to its feet and starts moving towards you.
