Does it matter which 9600 Pro I buy?

Yes. Get the ATi or the Shappire one. The powercolor one is underlcocked.

Connect3D offers good RAM for overclocking. Made by ATi as well, but those are expensive and green... I hate green, Connect3D red PCB is better.

Since the 9600 pro is the only dx9 ATi card that doesn't use an external power source... I think it'll be good for us with crappy PSU's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with the 9500 pro practically dead, the performance mainstream is left currently with 9600 pro as champ. Will the 9700 pro drop in it's year anniversary (soon), or will it stay in the high-end of the spectrum for much longer? Also, new cards are supposed to come out... tentatively Radeon 9650, 9800XT, and something else code name Thunderstorm, thunderhead, and rainbow. Will those be worth the wait if the 9700 pro stays expensive?

^ Wow, i think your a little confused. Let me start off by saying the 9700 is already dead, like the 9500. The 9800non pro replaced it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the 9700 is dead, it's no longer the king but it's not at all dead.

damn you people, it dosnt matter what brand you get....they are all the same except sometimes the heatsinks and fans are different.

I suggest ATi, sapphire, and xtsay for the 9800pro just because they are the biggest sellers and good support. There is no difference in their performance though....

Ok, I was just making sure, I was going to get sapphire or ATI anyway.

I never meant the Radeon 9700 pro was the king, I meant the 9600 pro was the king of mainstream performance now that the Radeon 9500 pro is dead. The Radeon 9700 pro is going to have an entire year that it's been out and I DEFINATELY expect a pricedrop.

There's going to be a card that's in the middle or upper middle that'll outclass all other cards for performance and price. A card that'll have every effect of the high-end spectrum, yet closer to the lower spectrum in price. I just want to run HL2 with everything I can, excluding high resolution and exessive AA/AF. If the Radeon 9700 pro can run at 1024x768 and lag behind the 9800 pro by 10-15 frames, I'm a happy camper. If the 9800 pro can keep up an even bigger distance in 1600x1200, then good for anyone planning to play at that res, my target is 1024x768 with 2xAA and MAYBE 4xAF. My bet is the Radeon 9700 pro will be that such card IF my anticipated price drop does occur. If not, then I'll hope the fall refresh RV360 will give me cheap prices and good performance... but I'm willing to wait till early next year if the Radeon 9700 pro will lower by then.

Sorry for getting offtopic. :bounce:
