Just wondering. Will steam have capped individual download speeds or will i dl using as much bandwidth as i can (providing steam's not over used)?

I hope it's not capped, mind you it would make sense when they release the HL2 pre-load. If it wasn't there would be a lot of ppl with slow dl's becuase all the 1mb+ peeps (like myself) would be using it all up! :O

yo squid did that icon show up before...? or did it just pop up??? like after the mid day time?

I have a 1mb connection and when downloading from steam i get around 800-900 kbit/sec

it annoys me that they use Kib's on the steam monitor. Why don't they stick to KB's? It's much easier for us all to use.

snak3y - you talking about 120KB?

He probably means 1.5mbit. I wish they'd just show downloads as kiloBYTES per second like every other application.

It probably will be capped but not that 99% of home userw would notice. 1 or 2mbit connections are regarded as pretty slow in some places.

what kind of bandwidth higher than 2mbit can people get residentially? I'm in UK and guess we're slightly behind but as far as i could tell even my 1mb connection's pretty rare and barely anywhere but major cities support it

I have a 3mbit connection here in Indiana. It is around $45 monthly. It is a nice stable connection, but the upload is only 128kbps.

crikey that's fast. i've got a 1mb line with 128 upstream for £30 a month. i had to really hunt for the deal though.

In my halls of residence for my first year of uni i was downloading at speeds up to 1 MEGABYTE a second. it was amazing

My comcast cable modem service just upped us to 3 mbit for free. Tho the upload speed is only 32kb/s.

I recently got bumped to 3mbps for free, as well... but my upload speed is something like 386kbps.

3 Mbits+ in the states has fairly common for quite a few years. I have had a 3 Mb/s cable service since January of 2000 at $45 a month.

The UK needs to pull its broadband supplying finger out me thinks
