Anyone here interested in playable Dog mod? I loved Dog how it just picks up random objects and throws it everywhere, squashing combines and creatures by throwing the objects or owning them by melee attack can be fun...

I know it's going to be extremely hard to create this mod, but Quartz managed to create playable Strider mod, so I don't think it's impossible to create this one.

Good idea...i think a played dog would be awesome. But i think the animations would be most difficult because there are so many differently shaped objects in HL2.

the striders have some ai, thats why they attack you in the game. DOG has none at all, hes all scripted...so theres little or no chance. Anyway it would turn into a mechwarrior type game = sucky. He'd just throw stuff all the time, he cant shoot. He's a cool character maybe it should be left to rest there.

Mechwarrior type game? You said Dog can't shoot. That made no sense at all.

Anyawy, anyone up for this mod?

Nah it wouldn't work out. Its too complicated to work.

Well i mean from a high position walking around in a robot...mech warriors may have rockets, but DOG would just throw stuff at people. I dont see where it could go, he cant really do anything but lift heavy machinery :p Dont get me wrong, i like the character but playing a mod with a robot wouldnt work.

Anyone ever played Vectorman for Sega Genesis? He kinda reminds me of Dog, just in the shape of the body, and his movements. Anyway, I think it'd be awesome if, like in Vectorman, you could fire out of your palms when playin as Dog. That's my piece.

I've thought about this before, and I think it would be lots of fun. Imagine climbing up to the top of a building and leaping across the rooftops...

....then jumping down on top of soldiers, squashing them. :E

And Dog has hands, why can't he pick up weapons and use them like everybody else? It would be cool to utilize some of the heavier weapons in the game, for instance jumping on top of a Strider, ripping off the singularity cannon and using it against other striders?

Or buildings?

I think this idea has a lot of potential if coded right. I'd like to see it. ;)

His hands arent quite gun holding material (either of them, they are different) It would just be 'the hulk' game all over again, best comparison tbh. Smash the crap outta stuff, jump really high, and mindlessly run around in the sky. Hes a good sidekick, I'd like to see an Alyx mod (which i have no idea would fit into the story, perhaps pre-HL2) with dog along side her. Whats next a lamarr mod, or a mod for the buggy? The buggy could finally find his dream partner in a combine apc perhaps?

Let me guess.. you're not a coder and you want someone to code a dog mod for you and you take the credit for comping up with the idea..?

Who said I was going to take the credit for coming with up with the idea? Stop talking out of your ass. I was merely sharing an idea of this mod. And asking someone who is available to create this mod.

The Strider has AI, Dog doesn't
What difference does it make? We're not talking about a half-assed job here. At least I'm not.... :|

Anyway, the mod would have to have the same degree of control as you get with the original game. WASD to move, space to jump, and so on. Otherwise, forget it.

Collision detection would be a bitch, walking animations would be a bitch, animations for picking up and throwing objects would be a bitch. However, it wouldn't be impossible. The walking animations are do-able, and theres only a handful of objects big enough to be worth throwing, so you'd only have to specifically code his hands to lift those up. Picking things up couldn't be dynamic like the manipulator, you'd have to have an animation to get him into the correct position to lift it up.

It would be a ton of work, and for what purpose? If you're just going to dick around with it then it will only last you about 30 minutes at most. If you incorporate it into multiplayer maps I can't see how it would be fun, at best it's a manipulator with the weight limit changed. A single player mod incorporating scenes where you play as him could be interesting, but that's even more work.

Basically, why bother?

Lamarr mod!

Or just a headcrab mod in general. LATCH TO THE FACES...

...and yeah... thats... it.

That would rock. Leap 20 feet of the ground to latch on unsuspecting victims.

Yeah if you are trying to make a playable DOG mod then you'll find you can acheive the exact same effect by using the "map" command to change to the last level (to give you the super gravity gun), changing maps back to any other level, and then turning god-mode on. You'd be invincible and capable of picking up really really heavy stuff, which is all a DOG mod could be to be honest...

As for a mod with DOG in it for more than 30 seconds, it would be equally difficult. Whether you write some "automatically-find-nearest-physics-object-and-throw-it-at-enemies", model in some animation sequences covering DOG picking up every possible object in the game from any possible angle and then plonk him down in hint node heavy maps, or you do what valve did and unreliable scripted sequences to completely control dog's every move, it's going to be an extreme amouint of effort. Especially since with doing what Valve did, you're going to get the same problem Valve got: You can't predict what a player will do. In the second DOG sequence in the game, if you move close enough the combine soldiers shooting at DOG will strafe away, from you, meaning that DOG will throw a car at wall, not killing anything, and then he'll run over to the citadel wall and do absolutely nothing at all while these soldiers run around shooting you and Barney... Which doesn't sound like something DOG would do at all, does it?

Your opinion, not mine. Which I don't give.
