Don Imus' comments

This is pathetic.

Everybody involved should pat themselves on the back for empowering racism once more.

I gotta agree, it's not like it's this guys first offense, he's been doing it his entire career. Nobody here is taking that into account, I'm sure if this was his first time he would've gotten a slap on the wrist. If someone can't refrain from using a racial slur for 4 hours a day then they don't deserve to be in radio.

First, Imus shouldn't be fired simply because he said something that pretty much everyone in L.A. or Cleveland OH, or any other big city hasn't already said themselves, "ho". As it turns out, his show was cancelled for this comment.

who cares? not everybody in "L.A. or Cleveland OH, or any other big city" has a radio show on MSNBC

Yet Howard Stern had said MUCH worse things on his show.

yet he had to pay close half a million in fines for breaching FCC guidelines ..ya he got off scott free :upstare:

I feel that howard got away with it because people said, "that's howard stern, expect him to say ho" in the same context that people say, "that's george carlin, expect him to say n*gger"

the parent holding company didnt think it needed to fire Stern ..it's not our judgement call to make ..they thought it was better that he made them money instead of losing money .. but Stern did get fired on several occasions for things he said on air

yet if i shouted out in the middle of the street "NAPPY HAIRED HO!!" no one would cut my pay for two weeks, and it would be in public.

who cares? you dont have a show on MSBC

so the whole public private thing is bullshit if you ask me.

no one is asking for your opinion specifically because it's uninformed ..MSNBC lost money from lost advertising revenue ..they could either fix the problem or continue to lose advertising revenue ..ANY company would cut their losses and fire the person responsible ..it's just GOOD business practive ..anything less is just being ignorant of the situation

I find it hard to swallow that someone gets offended by a sportscaster saying ho but a rapper or a comedian says it they laugh it off.

who cares? how does it affect you in any way? why does your opinion have any bearing on this issue whatsoever? they the advertisers didnt want to be associated with Imus or the show therefore as is their right they pulled their advertising dollars, you/the public have absolutely no say whatsoever about whether he should be fired or not

If it offends you when one type of person says a racial slur but not another one simply because of the color on their skin, isn't that in itself racist?

is this a ho? -> :afro:

heh funny you should say that:

cptstern said:
..I dont even care what Imus said but it irritates me that whenever a black person complains of racism white people automatically say "well if it was a black guy who said something racist ..."

for the love of god please answer as to how that statement has anything to do with the this story? please I'd really like to know ..the only thing I can come up is that the people who say that really are racist because they're saying "well if it's ok for someone else to be racist, then it's ok in this particular situation"

http://halflife2.net/forums/showpost.php?p=2226892&postcount=19

some of you are so easy to read it's not funny ..I can predict reactions to certain issues before they're even posted ..wow I'm like the ****ing amazing kreskin or something :upstare:

Try searching around the AM dials sometime until you hit an all-black station being openly racist about white people, a double standard does exist regarding who can be more racist than the other without getting in trouble.

well then call up their station manager/parrent company and complain ..perhaps they'll have them fired

again Imus is in trouble with his bosses not with the FCC or any other governmental agency

I'm amazed they moved this along as fast as they did, I figured they'd let him do his radio-thon to make some money for sick kids, but damn they really pushed him out the door

he did do the radio athon ..they raised lots of moneys

and when trying to plug a money leak it's best to move quickly and effeciently

This whole thread started as an opinion thread about whether or not people agreed that his statement was overly offensive, obviously if MSNBC is losing alot of money they dont have a lot of choices. The fact of the matter is that had this not been all blown out of proportion, advertisers would not of pulled out, so the discussion should be more about why it was taken so offensively.

Also, his telathon ended up being very successful, mainly due to people trying to protest, as well as for many local radio stations plugging it and encouraging people to donate...So although it still should of been broadcast, its nice that they are getting alot of money

it was successful because some people were pissed off because "had a black person made a racist comment nothing would be done" and mashed the donation button in idiotic support ...it doesnt mean they're not fuctioning retards ..because again for the love of ****ing god, what the hell does that have to do with anything?

But he didn't have the benefit of doing it on TV

not our call, not our problem ..it was their decision to make ..blame them

this thread is frustrating ..it's harder convincing some of you that they did nothing wrong in protecting their interests than it is trying to convince you people that the war in iraq was a sham ...I mean some of you just cant seem to get beyond the point where you judge this issue based on your own personal offense meter ..as if that alone is what should judge this particular issue ..." well if I'm not offended then he shouldnt be fired" blind to the fact that it doesnt matter what your opinion may be, you have no say because you have no stake in the issue ...i wonder how many stock holders demanded something be done when their stocks plummeted after the news broke?

by that logic your opinion of almost everything is void. Thats the entire point of the thread, peoples opinions...

there's a difference between opinion and informed opinion ..I can babble on about quantum physics but since I know very little it'll mostly be gibberish ..should my opinion remain valid because "all opinions by their very nature as opinions are valid"?

This is the part where this thread turns into a flame war. Started by Stern because he wants to inform us puny humans as to what is right and wrong.

wrong :p

in fact it's obvious you didnt read a word of what I wrote ..i'm not preaching what is right or wrong ..in fact I'm not giving any opinion whatsoever ..I'm just regurgitating facts

Honestly when I first saw the video posted on ebaumsworld with the subject title something like "Don Imus' racists comments" I was expecting to hear some actual racist remarks, including an n-word here and there.

I ended up watching ALL of it until I realized that I heard it and didn't even catch it as he said it. I had to replay the video to see what the hell all the fuss was about. "Nappy haired ho's". Oh please.

I guess if you had a daughter who did great in school and just won the biggest accomplishemt of her life be called a hoe on national TV simply because of her skin color you might feel a little different. But what do I know.

I'm not advocating what he said, and I'm certainly not saying it wasn't a rude and un-called-for remark, so don't get me wrong.

But still, you have to admit the coverage on this has been greatly exaggerated... he hardly said anything I would consider shocking or appalling -- nothing near what I would expect to be broadcasted all over the internet and media.

By all means I agree with you, I said from the start I didn't think he should be fired nor did I understand why this blew up the way it did. I just don't like to brush his remarks off as innocent. They were extremely offensive and uncalled for.
