This isn't strictly HL2-related and it isn't strictly new, but...well, I'll leave it to Gabe and Tycho:

"For two years now we’ve set up and organized a charity called Child’s Play. We set it up because we were angry the media decided to blame all the world’s problems on games and gamers. Basically they said that gamers were bad people, and we thought that wasn’t right. Apparently, you guys agreed: through Child’s Play you sent nearly a million dollars in toys, games, and cash to the sick kids in Children’s Hospitals around the nation.[br]

That was awesome. You guys have proven over and over again that you are an overwhelming force, and you really came through and made a real difference to the millions of kids that Children’s Hospitals care for each year. So we’re doing it again this year, only this time we’ve expanded Child’s Play to more hospitals around the U.S. and even some across the globe so you can send toys to a hospital a little closer to home.[br]

Child’s Play works the same as last year. With the help of hospital staff we’ve set up Amazon Wish Lists full of video games, toys, and movies. You can go to each hospital’s list and buy a toy, and that toy will be sent to the hospital. Some of these kids are in pretty bad shape. Imagine being stuck alone in a hospital over the holidays--so getting something from a fellow gamer would really raise their spirits. Some of the stuff the hospital will give away for kids to keep, while other gifts (like consoles) will be kept by the hospital for patients to use throughout the year."

Damn it, I really wish I was rich. I honestly can't afford anything right now. Maybe in a few weeks I can.

Wow, that really suck's man. Being stuck in a hospital by yourself, feeling like shit with no one there to play with you. Yeah man, I'll make an effort to donate something.

Sam as Glo-boy. I'm not in the money at the moment, but I will when I get some more EMA :).

I might donate. Depends on whether Amazon.com accepts me Visa Electron, and there's anything in my pricerange. Only have about €50 in the bank, and that's gotta get my entire family something.

If I had a job, I'd be more than happy to donate :(

(me = summer worker, primarily)

To be honest, I think there much, much more kids in the world in need of much more priority help such as food, clothes and shelter.

I'd donate to that. Millions of kids dyiong of starvation and you would donate to American kids so they can play games in hospitals? retarded.

Much better examples to donate to.

These kids are stuck in hospital rooms with no families, no friends and nothing to play with and absolutely no life outside of their bed. So if donating a little bit of money gets them a little bit of life and let's them be someone else other than a hospital patient, then so be it.

But you donate money to whichever cause you feel.

Grrrr... I want to donate but i'm having problems with Paypal and my online banking system right now. Going to have to sort that out before I donate.

Anyway once thats sorted $50 CDN is comming from me.

Same here, if I have some money left, I'll donate it to this fund, but currently that isn't the case D:

What does your spiritual side matter?

That 'One' site seemed more to me like a political party. Still, donate to whoever you want.

I remember my hospitalisation stays during my youth to be a blast. Well at the end anyway, the beginning sucked was full of pain and uncomfortable instruments. I got to socialize with plenty of children during the visit. But some of the kids listed here seem to be in real need with serious maybe deadly conditions. And I'm glad to help them.

Did you even look at the site before beginining to criticize it? They have operations in the UK and Canada as well and they're branching outwards. I've been following Child's Play ever since Gabe thought up the crazy idea and everyone thought it wouldn't follow through but I contributed anyway. Then not too long his Garage could no longer fit all the donations gamers sent in. Plus it's not just games or money for them you can give, it's toys activities, books clothes, whatever that's appropriate, it's a good cause.

PS: Everyone talking about problems with online transactions, you do realize you can send they have an address listed where you can send them money the traditional way right?

messed up? well if your about to die, reflect, spend time with family, all ask a wish. dude ask a wish foundation will get these kids OUT OF THE HOSPITAL and make a dream come true for them. get them to church so they can get a little hope for the afterlife, study some shit.

Ive played games my whole life, if i was terminal, last thing i would want to do is play a damn game. if i was just sick and bored for a month, hey, i'd play a game, but whats the point of a charity to keep kids in hospitals from being bored till they get to go home.

theres better charities for terminal kids, and theres better things to do with donations then buy games for bored kids in hospitals. why am I messed up?

If I was stinkin', filthy rich, I would give 1/2 of all of my money towards toys and things kids need. :)

(realises this is an old thread) Oopsie. :(

Last time I checked the will to survive has worked miracles on healing people.

This will help them gain the will to survive, and if you don't believe me on this will of survival, then just look at the medical logs, ask the doctors and the nurses, they know it helps.
