Don't expect to warez half-life 2..

lol. cool! go valve. HL2 is really worth the money

Smells like bullshit. How are they supposed to get your steam id? and if you warez HL2, you probably dont have a steam id you'd really care about anyways.

Means nothing, will stop no one.

yeh good for valve, .. but whoever made that post, might aswell kiss valves boots, or buy them new ones. Anti Warez... rofl,, who these days is anti warez...? apart from kids.

Anybody who doesn't wanna get banned from this site and their details handed into whatever group chase after warezkiddies this week wont support warez, thats who.

-

Anyhoo fluke has a point, the only reason to warez HL2 is the lack of an internet connection.. the only way to get it is with an internet connection.....

It defeats its own purpose, only of interest to people who simply refuse to buy it in the first place, but wont stop those who have bought it and don't have a net connection.. but then they need one to DL it.. oh my it is confusing.

But I don't care cause I got the net setup on the other PC now and can finally play it in all its DX9 goodness, so :p:p:p

News is from FilesNetwork, hosted by FileFront.

Gabe Newell did e-mail me that.

He did say it was an "experiment".

i seriously doubt a ban from steam will make ppl shake in their boots anyway

Gabe said "We're keeping track of accounts that do this",. but what if you dont have an account? And I'd bet they could only get it if steam was running at the time.. Filefont says this
So, as you can see, VALVe Software have released a test "warez" version aimed at catching people out. These people will have their accounts deleted and will be banned from Steam.
But Gabe didn't seem to say anything to that effect at all. Why would VALVe release HL2 as "Emporio"? Thats just ridiculous.

I've stated numerous times that I have warezed plenty of games. I've also purchased plenty of games, and bought HL2 gold. I think its very important to support the industry, but I am not anti-warez.

I think Valve did an amazing job just keeping the game from being leaked out on the internet weeks before the game went live. Even the copies that hit the street in Europe... very few (if any) people were able to play before the actual launch time. Hats off to that! Even VU has to give Valve credit for that, I'm sure that's been a few sales saved right there.

I'm sure Valve won't have any problem keeping pirated copies off Steam. If people want to pirate the game with the expectation of playing it offline (just the single player missions)... I expect quite a few will pull it off.

Quite frankly, there's no immediate incentive to purchase HL2 for multiplayer action unless you're a Counter-Strike fan... which I am not. But throw something like TF2 into the mix where Steam is absolutely necessary, and some people who will have initially pirated the game will probably break down to open their wallet for once.

Just my two cents...

Umm, I didn't think the pirated cs:s used steam at all? Wouldn't halflife2 be the same way?

So that means this is whole story is bullshit.

He lied/was being vague about what "this" reffered to (the logging of accounts, not the release as you assumed).

With a possible OFFICIAL HL2 MP this christmas.
This HL2 MP has nothing to do with VALVe. So where do you get this "official" stuff? Even the leaked alpha had the MP code built in.

Of course they didnt release a warez version 'to track accounts', but I have to admit it is a very witty way of dicouraging people to download the warez version.
Like fluke said, a warez version that you can only play with your steam account... yeah right.

I get about a hundred emails per day, concerning the activation through the internet. My sources at the largest game stores in Germany tell me about thousands of returned retail copies.

Why I say this? Easy: the ppl who have bought the game and want to keep it are driven into cracking the game. There will be a crack soon, a nocd crack will follow.

I've written a larger article on warez this year and VALVe does not kick ass in protection, they are taking the free decision of their target group and drive legal buyers into cracker's hands.

my two.
P

Now i feel better.... When my loyel intel told me that the game was cracked i felt disappointed... hehe Those Crackers can't even respect the best game ever made

Send 'em all to the FBI HQ

According to some info about the first CS:S leak it was possible to track the user accounts.

The method might've been better. But as far as i get from the reply it's a version of Half-Life 2 they'll release themselves.

Probably similar to some of the first CS:S leaks which required your account.

What you fail to understand is that, that news post refers to the "warez" version released by VALVe to catch people out and NOT any other release which may work fine.

Agreed on the bit with best game. What I do not agree on is something different: customers cracking the game b/c they can't get it to work.

I just hope the right ppl get the Valve version of the warez and get kicked / kickbanned.

The registration process and Steam after all are not very customer-friendly. And that is a fact, no nonsense.

Yeah, I've seen a coupple torrents of on the nova of supr. All of them seem to urge you to read the NFO (pretty much a README file) before doing anything. I don't think all of them are the VALVe released ones, so obviously there still are some warez versions.

I hate to say it, but you'll never stop warez of games from being made. Just like you can never stop a hacker from eventually getting into your network. No matter what percautions are put in place, there is always a way around, and it will be exploited.

It doesn't work.
The fix didn't work and didn't obey the site rules
The repacked fix didn't work and didn't obey the site rules.

As an indirect result, of the whining related with the non-working cracks, Emperio(The group that released the half-life 2 crack) was disbanded.

The Emporio release seems to be reliable from my sources. Also: no steam install necessary so no bans.

Should I post the NFO? Or is that against the rules? It would only be for discussion purposes.

Probably should email that stuff to Gabe.

emporio released a fix [ape] which allows you to play hl2.

FISKER_Q they didn't disban because it didn't work, they disbanded because they [maddox] were caught.

The fix doesn't work 100% either. Which is what i wrote. And it was a fix for a nuke.

And i didn't say they did disband because of it didn't work.

However about time maddoxx was caught. He shouldn't be that hard to find.

because of this: http://halflife2.filefront.com/news/;13907

warezing good games is bad mkay

For some people, the warez version or a crack is the only way to play, thanks to Steam. So if you ask me, the warez version should be allowed to circulate until Valve solves its problems.

It's pretty arrogant to **** up with Steam and then go after warez users.

the fix is working for people.

also, i wish the dvd wasn't required to play the game, they don't have that protection for the 'steam version' so why for retail, they both essentially have the same protection.

He distributed illegal copies of games/programs ?

why do people like you bother to type ?

I hope Maddoxx gets ****ed and serves some hard time. :D

Last I heard, he was arrested and Emporio disbanded. Don't quote me though.

Because other people start yelling others should be ****ed and thrown in jail for hobbying.

i STRONGLY disagree with u on this point
ALL my friends with no internet connection know at least 1 person that burns them the games (this distributers dont have a internet connection too ... afaik). so i dont get how they gonna stop warez when u are NEVER connected to the internet (to remind u ... cs:s has such a warez version, i saw it running on a friends pc without internet at all.)

valve have done plenty of unethical things, why not give them a taste of their own medicine...
