(I must congratulate valve on extremely stable source code...especially with so many obvious errors and missing parts)

Being a person highly knowledgeable in 3D Graphics, Programming, Mathematics, and more, I thought I’d post my observations of the screen shots.

I’d like to start by summarizing that at least on the graphics side if you download the beta and play it, you’ll be shooting your self in the foot. It’ll looks freaking awesome as is, but relative to the actual game release it looks like crap. Aside from the lack of AI and other complaints, how many of you would honestly say that you’d go back in time and download a prerelease beta of GTA 3? When the actual game was released, you’d already be sick of the shitty game. Bugs galore and mixing textures, cars and other graphics. Pedestrians standing there doing nothing and cars not staying on the road. While you probably wont regret it at the moment, you DEFFINETLY will regret it down the road. Food always tastes better once it is fully cooked. A raw hamburger will only make you sick of beef.

  • Missing particle effects: It appears that all true particle effects are missing. This means no steam, fog, smoke, sparks, etc. Particle effects in some shape or form greatly help the graphics of the game.
  • Missing electrical effects: Just to point out how shitty this is…half life 1 had some pretty cool looking electrical effects.
  • Missing models: Various models are missing like computer monitors and stuff. It’s like mostly empty rooms.
  • Missing liquid effects: This is the first thing that made me say awesome as a graphics person....but HL2 without these effects? I think not.
  • Textures: Some textures are obviously missing or incomplete.
  • Overlay: Would you really want to buy a game with something covering up a significant portion of the screen?
  • I noticed more…..

Whether or not the code-theft is being blown out of proportion, don’t support the people who are destroying the game!!!!

And if you’re planning on pirating the game in the future when it is released…
Think ahead to Half Life 3 (and 4 and 5). On a large scale you may be an insignificant factor, but lets say your $50 is the difference between having cool water effects and having half-life 1 water effects. Well, $50 may be a lot to pay for just water effects for a single person, but by purchasing the game, you’re sending a message to valve…this is great…the next one will be better or else. Don’t all of you want Half Life 6 & GTA 7 & Doom 4? While the games may seem a little pricey, please buy the game for your own benefit? Sure they are trying to make money, but you wouldn’t have any computer games if they weren’t trying to make money.

I dont understand how trying it will ruin the experience

when you bake a cake, do you not try some of the delicious batter?
do you not lick off some icing?

you get a taste its but its not the final thing.

This isn't some fluffy cake. Its a freaking 10 pound steak.

Let the valve-released screenshots and videos act as the icing you get to try before it's done cooking. The other stuff will make U sick. Runnign around in an unfinished version will make the game very boring and give you a headache.

Unsupported screen shots may/may not ruin the game...but playing that "beta" will ruin the experience.

I believe that is what is known as "Chef's Privelage" and you (and I and everyone non valve) sir are no chef.

enoguh with the analogys already;)

But yeah i agree, im not gonna download this beta atm, but i do wont to look at screenies:)

wee another valve worshipping thread. Worthless fanboys.

Trying it actually made me want it a lot more than I even cared for before.
I see how awesome it is now. I can't wait for the final version

Damn, I am hungry now. :(

*sigh*

what's wrong with being a fanboy? you say it like it's a bad thing.

valve is an excelent company (minus the security dept.). I look forward to any game they put out, as i would to any ID game.

For as long as they make good games, i will buy them, does that make me a fanboy? or a consumer?

is this not a Half-Life devoted forum? who here ISN'T a fanboy?

I fail to see the point of your post :/

I have my own fan clubs for the stuff I produce. There's nothing wrong with being a "fanboy" as U put it.

I know, it's killing me that others are getting to taste it. But, the truth is. Looking at these screens. The game isn't complete. The experience they get is only a fraction of the entertainment of the full impact with all the shaders and game elements kicking at once. The fact is, they are spoiling it for themselves because when the game actually gomes out it will be nothing more than an upgrade and thus, the full effect is gone. That's the best part of the screenshots for me is seeing how people are experienceing the first few steps of this work of art in less than half of its glory. It's like going to a the pre-screening of a highly anticipated action movie and wathing it through a kaleidescope.

I'll wait until it's on the IMAX thank you and just enjoy the previews until then!

SO thats why they call it an unfinished game... It doesn't have everything in it? OMG? I'm enlightened.

keep ur analogies to yourself. let the people who downloaded the beta 'suffer' while you hold over for the full game. simple as that

i will support valve when the game is released. right now, im just messing around wit the physics.

I have always supported the gaming industry. I buy all my games retail as I collect game boxes. I have never been able to understand stealing game software. Because in the end if the game makers do not make any money they will eventually stop making PC games and then we will be back in a console only gaming environment. I don't know about you guys but pass...

I will admit to having a burned copy of Windows XP Pro though. My rationale for that is Microsoft has made so many billions of dollars that I don't even feel bad stealing from them LOL

But as for games I buy them all. My current game collection stands at about 50 retail games with mint boxes and manuals. Most of them in my collection are new releases too.

My suggestion to everybody is support the game makers. Give them a reason to keep making us these great games and in turn the game makers will give good reason for NVIDIA and ATi and who ever steps up to the plate to make the 3D hardware these great games need. Because if you don't some day all we will be playing is low resolution play station graphics!

:cheese:

why should i have to go away? if ppl dont want to dl it then dont, i you do want to dl it, then go ahead. im not telling any to DL or not to DL.

Holly freak!!! I looked at like 60 screenshots and thought it was cool...but as I was gettign to the last 10 or so...and there was 1 wierd looking screen then...ummm...I wish I never looked at the screen shots. I'm freaking buying this game. I may buy an extra copy or 2 just to send valve a message that the game kicks ass.

I'd like people to not only avoid piracy/theft, but to actually fight it for cool games like this. Those people you know/meed who pirate the game are not only stealing from Valve, but also stealing from you.

At most, the leak will just cheapen the retail experience; you already know what to expect.
