id Software’s C.E.O. and co-owner Todd Hollenshead updated his .plan file today stating that DOOM3 will be done "when it’s done”.

and finally PlanetDoom have thrown up a new articled called Doom 5.1 : Curious about what sound setup you'll need to get the most out of your DOOM 3 Experience? Check out this article for everything you need to know to get the best possible sound experience!

( This is Rumour at the Moment) that Nvidia as part of their Deal with id Software should have a DOOM 3 benchmark utility ready to download on their website a couple of weeks before id Software releases DOOM 3 to see if your current system can handle the presssure! I'll post more Info as I get it.

PlanetDoom: http://www.planetdoom.com/doom3/articles/d3sound.shtml

I hope you had as much fun reading it and I hope your Doom 3 experience will be as fantastic as mine will be. Doom 3 will certainly change a lot of things and as you have read, sound is going to join the likes of the Graphics Technology with people striving to get the best they can to enhance the gaming experience. Doom 3 is going to be leading the wave.
:D

Lol, wouldnt surprise if the benchmark runs 30 fps slower on ATI cards, doesnt support shadows, doesnt support MSAA... And then is 10 fps faster, got fully working shadows and support MSAA if you set you graphics card ID to Nvidia :p

And I want the game, not the benchmark!

Yeesh that sound article talks about getting super high-end sound system, two amplifiers, etc... basically spending several hundred dollars just so you can get freaked out better. I'll be able to get freaked out just fine with two speakers, thank you very much.

A great sound system is, to some people, just as important as the graphics. I agree with that, to a degree. I'm not going to spend 10x what I spend on a high-end video card to get a high-end speaker setup.

I want a sound card other then my built in one....

someday....

dont hate on Id and Doom 3 for actually doing something right and on time unlike other ::ahem:: companies. im glad at least one major game is moving along and not staying completely silent and paying no attention for there community ::cough cough ahem:: need i say more?

You haven't followed D3's development for very long have you?

Two speakers AND a sub-woofer under the desk, of course. Just plain two speakers is crap, IMO. A simple sub-woofer doesn't cost that much and adds a lot of depth to the sound.

Thats blatant flame bate, nobody was 'hateing on ID'. Your just trying to stir up trouble, ID has released a fair amount of info and media on Doom3 but ID hasn't paid as much attention to the community as Valve have nor have they released as much in game footage. I'v folowed many games and HL2 has had the most pre-release information sent striat to the community than any other. However Valve havn't been very consistent with the release of information where as ID have, this is because Valve thought that the game would definately come out on Sept30th so they released all there information in that short time, ID however didn't know when there game was going to be released so just let out bits of info every so often.

You either don't understand what is going on or you don't care what is going on and are just makeing these comments to annoy people. You will most likely reply to this with some kind of insult calling me Valve's bitch or fanboy or just some nonsense about lies.

ill be using simple headphones for all my games for years to come

btw mrchimp is debate-i

I know how it will run on my computer. I played the beta. :naughty: :naughty: Also my two speakers and my sexeh subwoofer will probably die before it comes out. They are already crackling at loud noises. Also, they are 7 years old after all.

The "cracking at loud noises" thing sometimes comes from setting the volume too high in windows. Try turning the volume down in windows and turning the speakers up a bit more to get the same volume. Though, that might not be the case since they are 7 years old.

I wish I never read the Book "Masters of Doom" it has only deepened my hunger for Doom 3 and I think that a 200W 2.1 setup will do me just dandy

I have that Zalman 5.1 Surround headphone, and I must say, altough the rear speakers are a bit weak (you have to downscale your left/right a bit to keep them on the same level) the surround quality is good.

And eventhough the sub will never achieve the performance of a big speaker sub, it's very good compared with other headphones. I have no trouble 'feeling' explosions, altough it's not the level of 'feeling' that you get with a good sub. But hey, a beefy soundsystem of speakers costs hundreds of dollars/euro's, but my Zalman was 40 euro's :D
I'm happy with it, I can turn my volume up without anyone being bothered by it.

It's biggest drawback is that it looks incredibly stupid on your head :E (the thing that covers your ears is like 12-14 centimeters long...)
