I smell a crossover - the Combine use Hell as a teleport relay to get to earth.

I think the Combine would win. If we assume they are evenly armed, the Combine have better intelligence and work in groups. Coordinated efforts will typically work better than uncoordinated efforts, but again, this is based on the assumption that they are evenly matched. If we're debaing who's got the best firepower (which would then determine who would probably win), I'd still say the Combine, namely the Striders, Gunships, etc.

It makes no difference, because the Demons are immortal. So they'd always come back, even if the numbers are matched. The Combine (whilst superior in almost every other way) havent got an infinite number of troops, and so would have to close a portal to hell or lose.

Llama's got a good point. Gardenfreshmint, if we're comparing engines, I don't think anyone would argue that Source is clearly the winner. I think we're musing about the game characters.

Or rather, the game characters killing each other.
An argument could be that if the Combine empire is vast enough for a prolonged war with hell to be even considered, then the facilities for producing troops must be enormous. By that logic then, they could send a never ending line of mortal troops against hells finite, immortal troops, creating an all time stalemate...assuming something else doesnt attack either empire whilst its preoccupied

Demons are immortal? Funny, I remember obliterating them easily with teh plama rifle. A contingent of Striders could hold off the demons indefinitely, no matter how badly they are outnumbered. And remember, in Doom II the uber marine stopped all of hell's forces from entering earth. What makes you think the combine couldn't do what he did?

Because Doom marines are ****ing HARDCORE

Immortal or not, the demon's wouldn't be able to take down a Strider. Definitely not a gunship. Plus, we have no idea what the MortarSynth's and CrabSynths are capable of.

Power makes NO difference, you can have all the shit in the world but if you're fighting something that cant die you wont win. Even if the Striders skin was barely dented and a thousand Hellknights were killed, those Hellknights will come right back but the Strider wont once it falls.

Because that was a game, which wouldnt be fun if you had your ass spanked every 5 seconds on easy difficulty.
Plus, they are immortal. You only send them back to hell, you dont kill them. Thats why you get the funny burning away effect.

Pray tell, how WILL a Hellknight even dent a Strider when it can't get anywhere near it? And how in blazes can any demon touch a Gunship without Freeman's RPG launcher?

Not the point. Even if the demons keep coming and coming, they wouldn't be able to touch the Combine's Synth armada. The Combine will hold them off for ages until the demons die of boredom.

The Combine could seel the portal to Hell :p

Demons may not die, but they can be weakened. The Combine would warp a few hundred citadels into Hell and enslave them instead. How does an army of Demon-Synth sound? :sniper:

Well, the hellknights attacks are energy weapons (plasma), and why does a Demon need close proximity to be effective?
Oh, and not only do you not know how many Synths the Combine have, but you have no idea how many demons there are. Besides, demons cant die of boredom, they cant die at all. I think the legions of the bottomless pit have a fair amount of military clout to them :p
Even if the demons couldnt beat the Synth in Combat, you could always possess them. The powers that be from a parallel universe arnt picky about what they possess.

How can you opress a race of vicous killers that fear nothing? Not to mention the logisticical problems of teleporting Citadels into Hell, AND THEN you have to contend with the very nasty beasties that get pissed off at your moving in

Combine invading Hell ---> Whupping for the Combine

Burn away? They fall over and die.

And then burn away in yellow fire...is it that hard to miss? :p
I know the demons are immortal, I cant remember where I heard it though.

Eh, I don't remember anything in Doom + Doom II burning away. Doom III maybe, I don't know about that though.

Oh sorry >< I forgot to mention which game I was talking about
Yeah I meant Doom 3, as thats the most recent version. But yes, in the original two games they are mortal, just produced in huge numbers and have immense powers :p

That's a very good point.

I doubt either of them would win.
