Doom3 copied Halflife?

Heh, I'm probably way off but don't you think the imps spawning in doom3 is kind of reminiscent of the green things spawning in halflife 1? Well, tbh, I can't remember if the electrical charges in halflife were them spawning or using electricity as their attack.

eh what?
teleporting enemies in has been a gaming cliche since the year dot

A lot, the teleporting stuff to another dimension, the shit hitting the fan and the monsters from the "other" dimension invading the gamers dimension, travelling to this "other" dimension, the "away" teams that died exploring the "other" dimension.......pretty much a copy with better graphics and physics, but not with the better story or gameplay.

You can't say that doom 3 copied half-life .. because the story for doom was there before half-life was even made.
Doom 1 already had the story doom 3 uses.

So in a way you can say that half-life copied doom...but the half-life series imo is way better then then the doom series in every way possible.

Yay, Another thread trying to start shit between HL and Doom.

Just stop guys, it's dead.

you could atleast have pointed out some of the more obvious HL rip-offs such as the wall mounted health recharge stations, and train rides...

halflife copied doom in almost every respect but improved every aspect as well
hell even the basic story is arguably identical

:O Come to think of it, Doom copied the GRAV GUN TOO!

Conspirashens!

EDIT: Talking of that, I saw a Shens online when I was playing CSS yesterday. I thought he was American!

I'm surprised no one mentioned this (maybe they did) but teleporting from another dimension was originally in doom 1 back in '93, so don't freak out too much.

Sorry if I'm confused Disturbed but was that directed at me or the creator of the thread?

HL1 copied Doom 1. Lets see:
Doom 1:
A teleportation experement goes wrong and demons teleport in and everyone gets zombied
Half-Life:
An experment (inolving teleportation related crystals) goes wrong and aliens teleport in and everyone lots of people get headcrabed.

Well is there any chance you can round em up and put em back in before ya make a mess :)

The OP of course.

Meh, games steal ideas from each other all the time, I didn't see Doom 3 as a copy of HL at all. Aside from the wall mounted health stations which are familar I don't see the big fuss about using some ideas in games that have been successful. Yeah ROE used a "grav gun" but it operated slightly different to HL2's at it made the gameplay somewhat more interesting. As long as there aren't blatant copies that don't fit well or haven't been changed to suit the world then I don't care.

Doom 3 looks like shit next to Half Life or Half Life 2. In doom 3 it seemed as if you were just shooting the randomly teleporting monsters, over, and over and over and over. Where as Half Life 1 and 2 had some cool scipted sequences, new and exciting gameplay in every level.

Doom3 was nowhere near as interesting as halflife2 because of it's repetitive pattern. But I don't get why so many people are haters on it. Not only did I think it was a lot of fun but it's a helluva long game so it's definitely value for money imo.
" Doom 3 looks like shit next to Half Life or Half Life 2." You surely jest sir? :p The graphics in doom3 are superb.

There's a lot of people here getting defensive. All I did was show a similarity between the electrical charges of monsters spawning in both games. It was nothing more than an observation. I think both games are awesome, but halflife 2 receiving the mostest awesomest awardus :burp:

When I said it looks like Shit, I was speaking of gameplay. I admit that Doom 3 graphics are pretty good.

Yeah, games borrow ideas from others all the time, no biggie. I only see a huge issue if one game is copying anothers storyline, but other then that why not let them use some of the same ideas? When I am playing Doom3 and I see the health regenerator thingies I'm not thinking "OMG RIP OFF OF HL!!!!!1111" I'm thinking "Thank god I found that, I was way too low on health.." :p

what Im getting at is its not such a big deal. Yes, the vortigaunts and the Imps appear in similar ways, except the imps a hellish insignia is created before they appear. With the vortigaunts a greenish ball of electrial energy just appears.

Also I've been thinking; who thinks it would be interesting to see a COMPLETE conversion mod for Doom3, re-making HL1 in it? I think if enough effort was put in it, it could be frigging amazing. I'd love playing HL1 with Doom3's graphics engine/shadow engine/added physics. It'd be tricky doing those parts when your topside, though.

Doom copied Half Life, it had a gun at the bottom right of the screen

Doom 3 characters looke like wax dolls

Yes I can, I´ve played and finished teh old Doom games and they don´t have the story of Doom3, that one was written specificaly for the game, except for the "Demons invading Mars" thing.

Doom 1 has the same plot as Doom 3; a teleportation experiment goes wrong on a research facility on Mars and a bad-ass kills the demons that show up.

It's not Doom³ that copied HL2 (except with the expension pack with the gravity gun), but Quake 4's SP.

I don't really understand why nobody noticed this before.

Doom is the grandaddy of First person shooters. Before Doom all we had was id's previous effort 'Wolfenstien' but it was Doom that got the ball rolling. It was the inspiration for every FPS we see now including HL.

Omg its like sayin action movie #1 copied action movie #2 couse it has the same pistols in it.

ffs

umm, more like Half-life got inspiration form the original Doom?

Why does this get so much attention. They are both good and great games, and those who dosnt like doom dont play. But if a game maker A spots something he like from game maker B, he might take it and inprove it. If they dont... Wed still be back at pong.

The whole invasion scene is simular, but when you look at half-life 2 there's no Doom 3 in it. It's in a city, with some alien plot for civilian opression and you're fighting aliens, not demons. So basically HL2 is nothing like it Hl1 sort of is. I think it justifies since Half-life breaks into its own saga that is nothing like Doom effectively making it a different plot altogether.
