....but I will bet 100 dollar that it wont do this:

"Willits said that the physics engine for Doom III is a unique id Software engine and is not a licensed engine like other games have. Willits described a Doom III test map where 100 boxes are stacked up and one shot can bring the entire stack down. Willits claimed such a scene would bring other game physics engines down to their knees."
Where did that quote come from?

C'mon! The physics engine in HL2 leaked beta was nothing out of the ordinary (pretty damn cool though). It was reaaaaaaaaally slow when you threw stuff onto each other, making objects interact... Im sure they will optimized it......

Try that one out. As you can see, Havok can handle quite a few object interactions at once without a major slowdown. Maybe not 100, but your dreaming if you think the average machine will be able to run that Doom 3 test map. Willits also fails to mention how fast the computer they tested this on was, what kind of framerate they got and if there was dynamic lighting (the whole point of Doom 3).

Willits COMPARED with havoc2 (without saying it straight out... dont want to get in trouble).... doesnt matter what computer he uses then.... its a COMPARISON! :)

And the Havoc2 demo proves how CPU hungry it is..... 80% CPU with around 40 boxes moving... Add the game itself to that and you start to realize it wont hold in the long run.

The Willits quote was said during last Quakecon.

The physics thing will be a wait and see thing for most people because 1. anybody can throw physics into a game now a days 2. You won't have an idea how well it is used until you play the game and 3. Some of the neat stuff about HL2 physics (and Havok2) can't be said here.

What makes you think Doom 3's will be any faster? And it makes no difference what Willits says because he'll obviously say his is the best. And since we're judging unfinished builds: In the Doom 3 alpha, shooting a single ragdoll and having the limbs fly around made my framerate drop by 15 fps (20 to 5).

people over at GSC says ST.A.L.K.E.R.`s physics system are much faster than the havoc engine too. havoc is nice in painkiller though. they are all gonna be nice. havoc is probably no better than the others.

I believe STALKER is going to have the best physics system of all since it has much more fluid physics. Also it believe it has a fluid(water) physics.

Whats so good about fluid physics? if you want some AWESOME fluid physics and dynamics however, goto www.nextlimit.com and watch the 5 million particle video. Its awesome. Anyway, i haven't seen anything on STALKER thats impressed me other then the massive detail and size of its enviroments. Might download a video of STALKER now

stalker videos are pre alpha. stalker trailer 3 shows off some dx 9 at the end, nice. the weather\time video is nice too. dx9 gameplay vid comming soon!

The boss level of Painkiller shows A LOT of physically simulated objects, and I didn't notice any slowdown whatsoever when the boss kicked around some pillars or even the big wall made entirely out of box shaped stones.

Everything you see in the screen can be manipulated, all the pillars, without any slowdown.

Another three examples of physically simulated objects in Painkiller:

Well someone obviously hasn't played Half-Life LOL.

What?! Did iD make Commander Keen? Mother****er! I think iD's score was just multiplied by 999x!
