doom3 pc >, < or = doom3 xbox ???

Ofcourse the pc version is better graphically. The xbox retains all of the core features but has much lower texture resolution and the maps have been modified to be less demanding. It also appears some of the polycounts on the models have been slightly reduced. For an Xbox game it really shines but when compared to the pc game it doesn't come close to matching it.

What you have to do is factor the cost of upgrades for the pc version. If you already have a pc that will run it with good visuals then don't bother with the xbox. If if you have to fork over a couple hundred in upgrades to get the pc version to look better than the xbox version I would say go with xbox and in the future when you have a better pc pick up Doom3.

Also keep in mind Doom3 is 100% moddable and it will be the first game to be released with all the tools used to make the game included with the game itself. There will be plenty of cool MP and SP mods.

It comes down to what hardware you have and what your willing to spend for the best experience.

Yes the PC version is better, PC's are capable of more so they add more goodies then on the XBOX version. So there it is, all your questions answered. :)

Your right about it being better. But they didn't really "add goodies" for the PC version. D3 is a PC game and thus it is built for today's PC's. It's just being ported over to console so they have to take out some of the "goodies" to make it even run.

actually, the polycounts suck on PC too, but the textures are really, REALLY, good.

Polycounts don't "suck". They are a bit low compared to modern games, but that is because the polies aren't needed for the detail in Doom3. Normal maps provide all the detail. Polycounts in Doom3 are exactly what they should be.

Maybe the models havn't been reduced for the xbox, but they certainly look less detailed. I think the reason is that the resolution in the normal map is so low that much of the detail in the pc game is lost.

Depends on the PC - the XBOX has a celeron 733mhz (i think) CPU and a Geforce3ti(equivalent) graphics chipset - so if your PC is worse than this then its safe to say you should stick to the XBOX version.

If however you have a monster of a PC, you should definately buy Doom3 for the PC - as it will be superior to the XBOX version in every aspect.

Unless you're too much of a newbie to realise that your graphics card needs drivers, or that you need a newer OS than Windows 3.1 to run it. In which case you should sell your PC and stick with the XBOX.

It's not quite that simple. A PC with a 733mhz processor and geforce 3 is nothing like an xbox, due to games being specifically optimized for the xbox.

well whatever, give or take a bit... but if you have a box of crap PC then get the XBOX version, makes sense.

Yep, and the XBox isn't running an incredibly bloated operating system that is meant to be a jack of all trades. Every function of a console is as streamlined as possible to get maximum performance with cheap hardware.
