Do u guys think there will be a demo released for this expansion?

cod:uo released a demo even though it was a expansion awhile back

wel seeing as its pretty much the same thing as doom... and the time it took them to relese a doom 3 demo id say no

but not rule it out completely

They'll release a demo once sales start to dwindle. For some reason I think that will be soon. :p

Why? I think it'll sell well for an expansion pack. In terms of a demo, not many expansions have a demo.

Its really good, go buy it.

CoD:UO's demo sucked.
It should've been multiplayer, seeing as that's really where the expansion pack shined.
I hope if id releases an RoE demo, it's mp...I wanna try out the CTF.

Dude, the SP is more than worth it if youre a Doom fan. It kicks ass :)

id Software never released a demo for any of their expansion packs.
Actually, they did release a demo of Quake3: Team Arena.

I believe it's quite possible that there will be a demo of ROE.

Would you like it if you didn't like Doom 3 a lot?

Short answer: not very likely, but possible.

Long answer: just as any expansion, RoE is, for the most part, more of the same. However, it's different from Doom3 in some ways, it has many more open spaces and combat with bigger number of monsters, it's more challenging and it also has powers (think spells) you can use to make the gameplay more different. But make no mistake, it's still pretty straightforward and retro-style gameplay, lots of action and very good action, but little complexity. Oh, it's less dark, you have less need for the flashlight now.

Boss battles are much tougher, unlike the Doom3 pushover bosses. The gravity gun is a lot of fun (and yes, it works differently from the HL2 one and has a different purpose in-game too). Level design is classic ID - hard to get lost, you'll get where you need to be and encounter lots of enemies, but it's not all tight hallways like Doom3.

I liked the original and like the expansion as well of course... but if you say what exactly you didn't like about Doom3, I'd be able to tell you better if you'd like ROE.

$35 for an expansion pack, no thanks that is $5 more than the game.

I've heard people saying it's 25$ in some stores. Or wait a week and the price will go down.

I was thinking of getting it... but I opted for Chronicles of Riddick which is going cheaper right now. Hope I made the right choice. A demo would be nice of course...

Yeh, Raziel, I need info! :D

More action, more intense, more shocker moments, more shit to shoot at, and you pretty much become a god with all 3 powers. Hell time is so kickass its insane.

My favorite game.

Man i just beat the game and wow. Great stuff. Now i cant wait for Quake 4 and the new Wolf game!

Quake 4 will make us need to upgrade our comps twice over, again. From the sounds of it, it's going to have many outdoor/big environments, and action with many enemies at once, like it was in Quake 2 days... given that it runs on the Doom3 engine, it will be quite a challenge, technically to run.

They have already said they reduced how well the shadows are on Quake 4 to make it run quite well.

Then again, Quake4 is at least another year + more from release (summer 2006 earliest), so they may tweak graphics around still to account for what hardware is widely used by the time they release the game. After all, in a year, more people will have GF6800 class cards than now.

I belive there is no demo coming, since its just an expansion :D Those who buy it have Doom3 and knows what the game is about etc.

What I didn't like about Doom 3? Hard to say, I think for me it seemed like a game that tried to do everything, yet excelled at nothing. It tried to be a story telling game (like HL) but failed, it tried to be an arcade gun and fun shooter (like Serious Sam) but failed, it tried to be a horror game (like Undying), but it only relied on cheap shocks, it tried to be a psychological thriller (Silent Hill) but lacked the atmosphere, it tried to have a deathmatch multiplayer, but it was too slow to be deathmatch, and too unrealistic to be a simulation (they really screwed up with the Doom 3's dynamic lighting potential too, I expected a hide and seek game with lots of ambush moments).

It took a lot of elements from games like System Shock, HL and Undying, but never really reached that level for me.

Furthermore, the base it took place on was completely unbelievable as a 'real' place to me, it didn't seem like a functioning facility at all. With Half-Life, it all seemed a logical place that could exist in real life, it made sense, it was believable. Doom 3's base didn't make any sense at all. It was far too dark too for a military base (no, that's not art direction, they could have at least made the pre-accident intro a bit lighter).

And the biggest flaw was that it was very repetitive, the same thing, the entire game long. They could have at least pitched up the challenge a bit (Serious Sam was repetitive as hell, but always became more challenging and thus more interesting).

Really? Summer 2006? Im hoping for an end of the year release. They're going to have deathmatch at this years QuakeCon. Hopefully we'll here more when E3 comes around.

Ryan - then ROE will most probably not be good for you. It's somewhat lighter than Doom3, and it's definitely more challenging, but if you didn't like the general feeling of Doom3, you'll probably not like RoE. This is not to say you'll hate it, the game has a little more varied gameplay and such stuff, but you'll most likely think it's quite average.
BTW, the base is so dark not because it's military, but because after the hell breaks loose, most of the infrastructure is damaged. The first level, before you get a weapon, is actually pretty well lit.

Well...if that's what you thought of the game then don't even bother playing ROE. Even though it adds many new elements, there's probobly still no point.

As far as an demo, I doubt it. About buying it....for Doom 3 fans it's a no brainer. For people on the fences about Doom 3, it adds elements that many thought were missing from the original....it may be worth taking a look at. For haters....the door's on the left. Don't bother.
