DOOM3 Site Is up and Running

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

Look under the font this forum uses and you'll find it.

Its old, seen it but it is a good trailer.

Nothing new on my opinion.
Doom3 main attraction is a scary environment with fast-action game play.

Half Life is more thinking or stategy with an environment that you would want to explore. And the story.

While I like both, I can only take so much with monotonous fast-action games. ;)

Hold alt and type 0179 on the numpad, then let go of alt

³³³

charmap is for n00bs :) although you can reference the alt command.. it's best to just know them by heart :)

They'll both be good but due to certain issues that have happened in the last few months Half Life 2's hype has died down a lot, along with its community. Partly due to no updates from value. Doom on the other has released new pictures and other things like extra clips in the video such at a steady rate for a while now. If Valve would do that I bet the Half Life 2 community would be larger and full of hype :)

Yes but too much hype or lack of will not change the game.
Remember the game is the game, not the hype.

I saw no new scenes from DOOM3.
That trailer was the same E3 Doom3 trailer I saw a while back, no new footage for me.

True.

I can't count all the times I had to break out the old slide rule and do numerous calculations to where I should push the crate.

I just watched it and it seems the same to me but they did add one thing! "This game is not yet rated." I'm sure we all know what its going to be rated though ;)

I didn't notice anything new in there, besides the things already mentioned in this thread. I though a brand new trailer was set to be released soon, where is it?

Maybe it'll be the first AO game? :)

Hah. I have yet to see any (and I've searched before).. admittedly never looked at a video store.. but either way, none are main stream enough so that anyone knows about them

He told me that you'd have a deal as long as you use 'correct English' grammar ;).

*Make it run well on my 'puter Carmack...* ;)

Just wait for that PS2 Playboy game to come out.

Anyway, as already said, nothing new there...

All of those saying "wow", shame on you for not looking into Doom 3 a long time ago. :p

I did look into a long time ago, yet I'm still extremely impressed by it :).

No deal.

always been a Doom series fan and theres no question about it, im gettin' a copy :D

Not much new on the site, but the wallpapers are nice.
Apparently there are some games magazines out that carry a lot of new Doom3 info and screenshots. One particulary thing of interest: Doom3's multiplayer will not be peer-to-peer anymore, it will be client-server. (source ). That's great news, as client-server is much more convenient then peer-to-peer. At least players will be able to join a game at any given time and also reconnect with ease if they accidently dropped out of a game.

It's nice to see that this thread didn't turn into a big flamefest. I conclude that the forum has matured over the last couple of months.

Doom3 has added to the story (if you've been following like I have- screenshots= not new). Now it turns out that hell had attacked an ancient race living on mars centuries before but were defeated by a poewrful weapon called the soulcube. Later, demons stole the soulcube and hid it in hell and are attacking mars (and earth) again. The marine has to go to hell, retrieve the soulcube and beat the demons.
Sounds okay.
Anyways, anyone who likes HL1(minus grunts) will probably love Doom3.

Not true.

Games can be over hyped, and games can never be seen by anyone. This drasticly chages how well the game does.

If it over hyped, people start saying things like, "Oh wow we'll be able to do this in the game", then people start writing down every little word the devs say and expect them to hold out on those words.. "Hey!! You said the flame torch of death was going to be included, wtf is this you bastards!!". The devs start noticing how unprepared they were for such a huge community and end up not be able to deliver everything on time.

Vice versa for no hype.

You're walking in the store and you see a game you've never heard of on the shelf for 49.99$, are you really going to buy something that expensive before you see it in action, either in movies, demos, or screens?.. I know I wouldn't. The devs notice that the game has not taking off, and quickly lose interest in spending hours of work release anything new to support it.

Good PR is a mix of both worlds.. Famous line, "Always keep them wanting more"
