Doug Lombardi Q&A

Valve / Doug Lombardi Q&A
October 08, 2004 - We fired off Valve's Doug Lombardi a few question about its ongoing legal battle with VU Games, the status of the Half-Life 2 release candidate and print magazine reviews. Here's the poop:

Voodoo Extreme - Has Valve and VU resolved its legal issues related to Half-Life 2?

[Doug Lombardi] No. Trial date is set for March 2005.

Voodoo Extreme - Have you received any feedback about the release candidate you sent to VU on Sept 15? If so, how is testing coming along?

[Doug Lombardi] Yes, and subsequent release candidates have been submitted. We expect to be complete very soon.

Voodoo Extreme - Are you pleased with the initial review scores Half-Life 2 has received from print publications?

[Doug Lombardi] Always nice to hear nice things about your baby.

Holy crap. Trial date Match 2005? :rolling:

Already been posted in this section, and under basically the same name

ummmm... posted already, god some people are blind.

I love this...
Notice how both hi_ted and groovy say "It's already been posted" and it's not as if there wasn't time for groovy to see that hi_ted already posted this, so this means that when groovy says: "ummmm... posted already, god some people are blind." he's blind aswell!

Why tell people "bebebebebe this has already been posted bwargh" and then go post something that has already been posted aswell? Aren't you contradicting yourself...just a tiny bit?

So close to release

And what does Doug Lombardi do in valve? In he second in charge after Gabe?

He's in charge of Public Relations (which some people find very funny).

My apologies then, if you posted first, there was another topic that seemed to be first.

You see the legal battles will allways be there and it doesn't affect hl2 in any way

Funny how doug said that many rc's were semt to vu and hopes to complete soon...what the hell does vu want???? the game is already pretty much perfect! why the hell ask for another rc from Valve??.

My opinion..VU is just taking the chance to screw valve again. you know what Vu is in my opionon EVIL. They are getting worse than microsoft, plus they are a bunch of frenchies....can you guys spell POLITICS?? i want hl2 now, valve want hl2 now for the public, and generally the whole world want hl2 now??? but ala VU wont have it! does that seem pretty sadistic to you guys, VU should return to water taps.....

MY two cents..threee..no, four cents....wait a minute.

VU is not lead by some highschool boys lol. They know what they're doing, if it was so bad between valve and vivendi, valve would break the contract immediatly.

scarecrow1: VU wanted at least one more RC because the first one had some serious bugs in it. Probably because of CS:S. The fact that they have sent multiple (if that's accurate) means that they either fixed them & found new ones or didn't fix all of them at the same time. The thing with bugs is that there's always a risk of getting more annoying bugs just because you fixed another. That's part of the reason why games are never completely bug-free.

And since we don't have an insider at either Valve nor at VUG, that means that we'll probably never know wtf is going on. The PR people hardly ever talk about this stuff with outsiders. Don't ask me why.

More RC's = better game. If VU had accepted the first RC the game would have been buggy.

No it would've been ready to ship. They don't accept buggy games damnit.

There is an almost infinite number of hardware and software configs. No to mention spyware and viruses. So you have to test as many as possible. Plus some video cards affect what you see in game weird.

I am sure they are slugging away.
