Doug Lombardi: "...release date soon".

Is it true? Will the long waiting soon come to an end.

You could be the guy who speaks at the end of the Bold and the Beautiful. It's possible

Chris_D said:
Possibly. I'd reckon that security wise it's a lot more sound for them to do it over Steam.

i would have to agree. its developed by valve ffs, so it MUST be the best way to get hl2. why would they develop it in the first place? there are plenty of other softwares that you can get that enable server searching and connecting.

why wait for it to enter the stores, only to be bought by the people camping outside over night...itll be out of stock in one day and will be THE fastest selling game EVER (lol sorry FFX)

and yes, if vivendi screw us over by sending it back to valve or something...lol ill sue both of them rofl (jk).

and btw, its an anniversary, NOT A RELEASE DATE. there is NO official release date yet. who knows, maybe valve are telling us what they think we want to hear, and are actually not shipping until november or october...or maybe earlier than they said they would....one can only hope.

VU has been playtesting nightly builds of HL2 for some time -- they've been helping report bugs to Valve for a while.

Valve and VU will push the production of the game as fast as possible and I have no doubt they have the resources and money to do so. I predict they accept the copy Valve 'officially' labeled as RC to VU today or Monday. I'm guessing a September 30th release date - maybe sooner on Steam as an incentive to have people buy it. Hence the worldwide release date.

Who else started to touch there balls when they heard this news? hehe

You got a source for anything you've said or is it just speculation?

It's pretty common for the publisher to test the game, even before it goes Release Candidate state.

Although i suspect Valve also made their own team, i'm sure that vivendi have been playtesting for a while now.

It would make work a lot better than it always is.

But it's speculation.

That's what I am really worried about. Vivendi could really care less about the community.

Community = customers = money

I am going to put my faith in the fact that they are experienced enough to realise that Half-Life 2 is the most anticipated title ever

Excuse me while I fall of my chair while laughing hysterically.

i will never buy hl2 if it comes out in america first and then europe 2 weeks or so later. oh wait...steam seems more promising lol.

Yeah, because two weeks is just unbearable and therefore warez is the only solution.

and if you see what kind of features HL2 has you'll see they are mostly for the hardcore and fans

HL2 was designed for new players as well. So there goes your theory.

and besides most of the casual gamors that buy their games on the holidays do not read game mags or go on the net, they buy a lot of the games because they hear from their friends that they are good or play them at friends( thats the way ther little noob mindes work)

oh noes n00b lololloollollol????+++plusone

then maybe they wouldn't screw us on hl3, because its looking that it will also be delayed and will probably come by "accident" also come in november.

Yeah, HL3 is definately going to be delayed because Valve has like really started to work on it and everything.

Unfortunately it won't be released sooner on Steam. Valve have a deal with VU not to release on Steam until the worldwide release date.

I guess there's a chance you'll get it first on Steam if you live in some remote part of the world. Like the UK :)

Sorry, let me rephrase that. It is one of the most anticipated titles ever.

Hohoho, that's not what I was laughing about... not even remotely..

Ya know people keep saying this but NOBODY knows for sure if steam users will get it right away or not. People just ASSUME that there is some contract made for this but it may not be the case or some other kind of deal like you can get your cd copy with your steam copy when available and VU gets those fees. IT may be somthing like that. Dont be so certain that steam users wont be playing it immediatly. IF I am dead wrong then show me the quote where Valve said that is absolutly will not be enabled before the physical game is on the shelves. Come on show me!!!

i really hope this doesn't turn into something like the famous "2 weeks" Doug Lombardi quote...anyway im still taking everything being said with a grain of salt since i am not ready to be disappointed.

Well, considering this time around we've had confirmation that they actually submitted the RC to Vivendi, I don't think you need to take it with a grain of salt. However, regarding release dates, I'd say sit and wait until Lombardi says "Vivendi's given us a date, xx/xx/xxxx!" Anything else would indeed be a rumor and a disappointment

Release date soon? You guys are missing something here, this is Valve soon we're talking here.:p

Chris_D said:
I wouldn't be surprised if Valve use Steam to distribute it to Vivendi

Vivendi said that the servers were at maximum capacity and had to wait a few hours to try again :naughty: :D

Actually, i think that it's pretty much up to Vivendi now ;)

Even if it is Gold and Done, Vivendi will most likely hold off til Mid-November for a Holiday release.
It's a major title with huge sales. They've been slumping recently, so they'll be capitalizing on the Holiday tangent to its max.
Anything earlier than that will be unlikely.
Damn them.

Unless, if they reject it, which I really doubt...

Yes, damn game publishers for trying to earn money.

What's the point of holding it untill novemeber they still get the holiday sales, and plus they get little rabid fanboys like me running around to all their freinds going "omg wtf mait hl2 for teh win!" Best type of marketing is word of mouth ;)

So they could release it tommorow and still get the holiday season boost AND get people talking about "that game little ^Ben got a little while ago sounds fun ima go pick it up for my son"

But come October, heck even September or earlier IS the holidays. People shop NOW not November, by then all shopping is done. I see no relation what so ever for a november release because of more sales from holidays. They would get just as much now as they would then.

I don't put too much faith in it, Doug Lombardi has a Reality Distortion Field that can rival even Steve Jobs'.

Dude, Vivendi Universal is in Los Angeles... Doesn't take that long for something to go from Washington state to Cali state. Vivendi Universal International is in France. Why would they send it there instead of the US ?!?!? :dozey:

I'd like to remphaize a few things.
A) I didn't know about Vivendi Universal in LA. Why would I know about that department and especially, where it is?
B) If you read my post again, I ask if there are any US offices, which should indicate that I DIDN"T know that there was one in LA.
C) If I knew the location , I wuoldn't have asked about how long it would take to get there, but it still is an interesting question: How they choose to get it there. Steam, direct connection of some sort, cd in the mail. etc etc etc

You'll be hard pressed to find an entire nationality that is the same from person to person. . . in most aspects.

ball touching would be one of them I think. But who knows :farmer:

I didn't mean to sound harsh "orange" sorry dude. I was merely replying back in general to people stating that Vivendi is in France. While that is true, its only their international headquarters thats located in Frogland.

The theory of Vivendi holding back HL2 til mid november etc is BULLSHIT!
It doesn´t matter WHEN they release it, they will sell as much units anyway.. it´s an incredably stupid thought... it´s not even understandable..
Anyone REALLY think that more people will buy it only because its christmas? Even though if people haven´t bought it before christmas, they might get it then..

/D

Yeah, but then you have to take into account all the little people who don't have jobs (mostly children) who will get that game for Christmas. >.>

something that's half decent. now, ill be leaping up and down through the streets screaming "YAY!! HL2 IS 1337!!" and getting my ass kicked. i think there are a few flaws, but they'll work out

PS. i think vu has had a few other awkward release dates and times from expected to real. anybody know if this is true?
