can someone tell me what to do when it's done? and can you tell me in english rather than some kind of tech-language seeing as I know very little about computers. I.E explain very simply what to do and how to extract the files or whatever it is you're supposed to do?

help will be much appreciated.

Er- oh, sorry.

I imagine there's an installer that takes care of everything.

If not, you should learn how source game file structure works.

The HL2 game folder is found here: steam\steamapps\youraccount\half-life 2\
But all the data you're concerned with is in the "hl2" folder within there

Folders like "models" "materials" "sound" etc are in there. If the package you're downloading is an archive containing folders like that, then you just put them in the \hl2\ directory so that they match up with the existing data structure. If the archive you're downloading contains all of those data folders already in a "hl2" folder then, then you would put that folder in your \half-life 2\ folder, so it again matches up. Make sense?

Edit: Sweet holy **** this mod is huge.

I still didn't understand that. please go simpler.

edit: also, there was no installer

I really can't make it any simpler, anyone with a basic understanding of how files and folders work (read: prerequisite for owning and operating a PC) should get this.

Folders like "models" "materials" "sound" etc are in there. If the package you're downloading is an archive containing folders like that, then you just put them in the \hl2\ directory so that they match up with the existing data structure.

please explain this part

In the \hl2\ folder there are more folders (well, they might not be there before you install, but that's where they're supposed to be) like models, sound, materials. This is where custom content goes. When your game detects files in these folders, it will use them instead of the default data (which is stored elsewhere)

So you have like \half-life 2\hl2\models, \half-life 2\hl2\sound, etc.

I would have guessed that the mod you're downloading is an installer program that automatically installs the stuff for you, maybe with some customization options that give you some choices, but otherwise it puts all the files in the right folders.

If it isn't an installer, then it's just a zip or rar archive, containing the data folders like the ones I mentioned. You would need to extract these folders to the proper place for your game to detect them. If you open the zip/rar and inside you see several folders like "models" "sound" "materials" then you would extract those folders to your \hl2\ directory, so that way you have \hl2\models\, \hl2\sound\, etc.

If inside the zip you see a "hl2" folder, then you would put that in your \half-life 2\ folder.
If you were to put the hl2 folder inside \hl2\ then you'd have an incorrect file structure. It would be like \half-life 2\hl2\hl2\models which is wrong.

ok sounds good. thanks for the help.

Edit: ok new problem: the files are gone, I can't find them anywhere. it says that they were saved in the 'temporary folder'. the closest thing I can find to this is the 'temp' folder, which doesn't have them.

Edit 2: ok I think I got it, instead of pressing 'save' at the start, I pressed 'open' is that the problem?

Ok new problem, again. I've downloaded the files, they're a set of RAR archives, but whenever I try to open them it opens internet explorer for a second and then asks me if want to open or save, if I press open, nothing happens, if I press save, it asks me to overwrite it seeing a it's already there, after which it seems to download something for a second and then goes away. basically, nothing happens either way.

If you downloaded a set of rars, make sure you use WinRAR to open them and extract them.

ok, got winRAR, now, I can't find the folders like 'models' and 'materials' in the HL2 directory?

It just occured to me that this cinematic mod is probably an actual source mod instead of just a content replacement pack.

Can you tell me what's in the RAR, exactly? There are probably installation instructions in a text file that should help, too.

ok I just found am installer application inside the RAR files, which you're supposed to extract and then use to install rather than extracting the files into the HL2 directory. which I did, and then found that during the installation it comes up with a faliure message that says: Archive bin.zip: the zip file could not be found.
any ideas?
