I hope that someone here can help me.
Specs:
Athlon 64 3500+
Gigabyte GA-K8NS-939 nForce 3 mobo
1GB DDR400 Transcend Jetram in 2 512MB sticks in dual channel.
Ati Radeon X800XT PE
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
AOpen 400W PSU
Windows XP HE SP2
Nothing is overclocked and there isn't a temperature problem. All devices are using the latest possible non-BETA drivers (Catalyst 5.9 for the card and nForce 6.67 for the mobo). I have DirectX9.0c. I'm not getting problems in *any* other games. I am using the lastest BIOS revision for my motherboard.
In all source games that I own (Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch and Day of Defeat Source) I am experiancing several problems:
Either a level simply won't load and will hang indefinately at the loading screen. This may or may not be accompanied by graphics corruption and/or a crash to desktop. If it crashes to desktop then I sometimes get the following error:
I might also be able to load the level and play normally for a while. After a seemingly random period of time, the game will either crash with graphics corruption and the above error or the game will hang with the last few seconds of audio looping.
I discovered that the problems become much less common if I only play with one stick of my RAM (it doesn't matter which stick). I have done multiple memory tests with no errors discovered.
I also tried playing around with the AGP Aperture and Fastwrite settings, but it doesn't seem to have helped much. The error may be less common with 256MB AGP Aperture, but that might be wishful thinking.
It should be noted that this problem has survived multiple hard drive re-formats and Steam re-installations. I have also tried using my onboard sound and even disabling all sound with no luck.
I have tried verifying my .gcf files at the Stesm website, but it didn't help. They're not corrupt, apparently.
I used to get the "Memory error... Memory at wherever cannot be 'read'", thing, but it hasn't appeared for a while.
I hope someone here can help me. Steam techincal support ignores me and the Steam forums are useless.
