For years the RIAA has defended the use of DRM, much to the dislike of millions of honest customers who actually paid for their music. Now, in a shocking turnaround, the outfit seems to have come to the realization that DRM does more harm than good and has officially declared its death.
Thank god DRM is going away like how EA realized that gamers hate DRM and said, "Alright, we'll no longer use the ****ing thing."

April Fools!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Finally, this is what stopped me from getting Far Cry 2! Good riddance, DRM.

Steam works fine for me though. I have no problems with it, but the DRM that has alot of people angry is the one called SecuROM. You should see all the bad reviews Spore got on Amazon because of it.

inb4 they make something new that's twice as worse

Steam is DRM? Not all DRM is bad DRM, just poorly implemented DRM.

Doesn't this only pertain to DRM for music?

It's nice to hear, but to my understanding the DRM used in games will stay for now.

The only time I've been pissed on DRM is when it only allows for a limited amount of installs.

amen to that! i tried it for about 3-4 hrs and it bored me to tears. what a waste of $20

I think I picked it up for $15 on Steam, and that was a waste. Played for 30 mins before peacing out.

Hah, I got FarCry2 for free for buying my GeForce 260 XTX.

Although I have never played it on the disc I got. I've finished it earlier already and yes, it was pure crap.

They should just remove all DRM from games indeed.
Now it's time for bloatware like GFWL and Rockstar Social Club to die, pirates shouldn't have an advantage over the people who pay for their games.

All DRM is bad DRM sorry. Someone somewhere is trying to control how you use your purchased stuff. How can that possibly not be a bad thing for the consumer?

One can argue that Steam is bad because the customer doesn't have full freedom of his games but I can't say that it is any different from for example getting serverlist from a server somewhere to be able to play online. The game is dependent on the server being up and running anyway.

DRM has been around forever, it's only recently you've noticed it because of the poorly implemented DRM. If it wasn't for the poorly implemented DRM and the negative press associated with it, you'd be just fine and dandy. Remember CD keys? Remember games where you had to have the manual to beat a certain point (that was lolsy)?

I do remember those things and they were annoying as shit. Nothing has changed. The implementation of DRM is irrelevant as it's still a burden to the consumer. Thanks for proving my point.

but I can't say that it is any different from for example getting serverlist from a server somewhere to be able to play online. The game is dependent on the server being up and running anyway.

It's quite different. Maybe you should lookup what Digital Rights Management means. Needing a legitamate key to connect to that server and get a list would be a form of DRM. The servers availability doesn't matter.

See here's the thing. I wouldn't be fine and dandy I'd be just as annoyed as I am right now replying to you. Don't make assumptions.

No, only recently they've become intrusive. Before it was just locked from being copied, or serial codes and the like. Now they call home, won't install, damage hardware, refuse to install if you have certain software on your computer, tell you that your copy is pirated and offer to sell you a copy, etc.

Exactly. Some of you guys may be alright with some of them like Steam, but I won't deal with it personally.

Music DRM is 'dead', not DRM for games and movies!

ya, fc2 is fun for a little while but the missions are quite tedious. You complete one mission then have to drive to the other side of the map. What's worse is the fact that you have to keep taking your map out to make sure you are going in the right direction. If they implemented some type of bf2 type mapping system it would be a lot less frustrating.

Also, there are a lot of places where you will find yourself next to a mission location, except it's located 200 feet up on a cliff...which your map neglected to tell you. I actually stuck through the entire game and beat it but only so i could say i beat it. (michael jackson song getting stuck in he.....BEAT IT!!!!!!)

Intrusive game DRM seems to be dying too...several game companies have shunned it outright, and even EA has softened the DRM in some of its worst offenders(the one thing keeping me from getting Mass Effect).

Not Quite. EA being EA never learn and C&C 4 will require an active Internet Connection whilst playing.

Ah, forgot about that one. Maybe a second Spore will make them learn, but I doubt it.

DRM infected media you refuse to buy hurts them many ways! DRM is very expensive to implement, not to mention the cost of the game's development!

Oi! Thou shalt not utter blasphemy in my presence or thou shalt be condemned a heretic!

Far Cry 2 was a fun game.

DRM sucked. Good riddance & R.I.H.

you are a valued member of our community. that being said, you're ****ing crazy. the game was fun after you experienced everything it had to offer, but then you are left with guns jamming CONSTANTLY, driving for hours, and that stupid malaria...ugh.
