I have some questions about DSL and 2 computers. Please answer them without any "your an idiot" threads or anything like that.

-First, would it be possible for me to connect two DSL modems to the same phone line for 2 different computers without networking??

-Of not, then would a wireless network be a suggestion?? The two coms are on opposite sides of the house and a wired network would be too much hassle.

Ok thanks. Please give me any positive input about this. it not that im an idiot or a noob at computers, just a little confused about this subject. oh btw, its Verizon DSL.

In your situation most people would probably recommend you trying a wireless network setup. Although sometimes they can be a bit unstable when it comes to ping times in games and connection speeds. I've always used cables to connect on my home network but i've known people that have complained much about their wireless network.

About using two modems, i've never tried that or heard anyone that's tried it so i honestly dont know. My advice to you, take your questions to the Broadbandreports.com forums. They may be able to help you better over there. They also have a section specifically dedicated to verizon DSL users.

No to the first question, or rather yes - but not at the same time...

Wireless is your best (read only) option if you don't fancy laying cables.

And if you do go with wireless, go with wireless B, it's the cheepest, and you won't need anything more than that unless you're running servers wirelessly. Also i've read B has a longer range. (don't quote me on that) And G networks are backward compadable with it. (that one is true)
I've been using a wireless connection in my house for a while, and haven't had any problems. About how many feet away from the router is the other computer you want to hook up? Like a room away? Or like two floors away?

Also don't worry about being called stupid on this forum. Only time we ever insult people's intelegence is if they're spamming, or they ask a question, it's answered, and they flame about how it's a stupid answer and that their way is right.

Do you mean the 802.11 standard?

If so, I'd agree with the suggestion to go with 802.11 B - its probably the most common, so if you run into problems, you're most likely to be able to find solutions and/or products.

I found this quote over at TechTV. It might be a bit old, but gets the basic gist of it.

Oh yea 802.11b standard i mean, i always forget the numbers, the router and wireless nic's boxes just have B or G or A on the cover in nice big letters.
