It sure is. Dubai is running out of oil, so its government is quickly developing the country's infrastructure for future sources of income.
 
I have been there, quite an interesting little place, it's remarkable what they are doing. With that said, it's all style and no substance, very little culture involved. It's basically a giant shopping center.

I've been pretty close to you, and visited Bahrain this winter, seemed pretty well developed recently, although Singapore was more so. Seeing Dubai like this makes me want to visit for a little bit.
 
LOL when i saw the images of the houses on those sand circles in the water i could already see the citys destruction. Anyone ever heard of WATER LEVELS RISING? lol
 
Wow. That's a big change since 1990. So many cranes about the place.

Nah man, that's the Palm Jumeirah. It's like a ultra-high class suburb filled with tourist destinations, hotels and houses and shit. What I was talking about was the Burj al-Arab:

I've also been to Dubai, it was okay, not my kind of place, felt too artificial.
 
Lived there for 4 years between 1999 and 2003.

Went back for a weekend this year (stop off to another country) and had a look around. Dear god how much it has changed in just 3 years. The roads alone are now just...mad.

Visited my old school (Dubai College), which was originally surrouned by wasteland, and is now surrounded by 20 storey office blocks right upto the walls...

its growing too fast for its own good. shame, was such an AWESOME place.
 
Imagine an entire planet like that D:

THEN we can start colonizing other planets.
 
Dubai is a great place to lunder money. Half of the buildings is drug money.
