 Wow, Duke Nukem:Forever is going to utilize the unreal 3 engine, due 2005/06.

3D Realms has something up their sleeves. They also picked up a lethal artist by the name Feng Zhu (see 'freelance info' on the lefthand side) Feng is currently working with famed director James Cameron and has finished working on Star Wars Episode III. He has also worked with Epic Games. I can assure you...from a very reliable source...DNF IS using the Unreal Engine 3. Also 3DRealms is planning for a 2005/2006 release to tie-in with the anniversary of Duke Nukem.

That is if DNF ever gets released for sure:| .

2005/2006....Would that be the first time we cycle through all the numbers that can exist...or the second time?

:P

Should be fun though if they do get it out by then.

I can't believe there's still a fanbase for this game.. but if that's true, and it's the (presumeably) first UE3 game, that'd be awesome.

I've already had a good chuckle about this on IRC.

DNF has every few years said they are using the latest engine, they never do in the end. Biggest money pit going.

Feng is having a larf too, make a load of money without having to worry about actually doing any real work since it'll all change again when UE4 turns up. Smart move really. :)

I'd like to know who the investors are...

I hope 3DRealms stands by their claims.
I don't want DNF to end up DNF.

Well that's cool they got Feng, I was admiring some of his work just last night too.

I imagine 3D Realms had to sell their souls somewhere down the line so I have an idea who the primary investor is.

Microsoft!

Wouldn't surprise me. They have the Unreal tech liscenced and last they said they integrated Unreal Engine 2. So I guess they are just gonna keep switching.

yeah they must of ment 2060... with the unreal engine 30

How long has this game been in the making again? Don't say 'Forever'

I can't believe this, Unreal 2 is still a top of the line engine. If they put it out this year it could still be one of the better looking games on PC. This game is never going to get released, ever.

They're just so ****ing stupid, who the hell runs that damn company!? People say EA is bad for rushing games out but at least they make games. That company is basically nothing more than a money sucking black hole, it's produced nothing in like a decade.

So how many engines has the DNF team worked on now? 4 or 5 is it?

And people complain about HL2 being one year late. :upstare:

You'll only hear these words, " Duke Nukem Forever came out!" said by...

My great, great, great grandchildren.

Problem is, on 3dreals the dude sas it isnt true.....

Actually if we really brake it down, didnt the guys who made unreal engine 3 say that one of the biggest reasons it hasent come any sooner is that litteraly the operateing system to support the game isnt comeing out till 2006"end"?

As best i can remember they were saying that it needed a really high something to do with ram to even load the levels and that only longhorn will support it.

Dunno why, bring the texture resolution down and its doing nothing that current games aren't already doing.

 I think the guys at 3Drealms are too paranoid that DNF wont offer the 'latest' to enable them to make a good ass game i.e. the different jumps to different engines.

heh, changed engines too many times, scrapped 95% of the game in 2003. Incompetence at its highest level. Announced in January 1997, the development cycle is already 7½ years.

You serious? Damn, they really want this to be a good game. It better not disappoint.
Not that I'm interested...

hmm...well if they ever do get this game done and released i'd have to say they wouldn't perhaps be under the kind of pressure Valve is feeling right now to not only deliver the game ASAP but also make sure its as good as its prequel.

but then again i am one of those who think u need to separate games even tho they are sequels and all and just judge them by what they are and not fall into the comparasions trap.
im sure tho that most don't see it this way...the comparasions are invetiable whether its HL2 or DNF.

I am surprised they aren't bankrupt. If they scrap again it will probably end up being a text based game.

3D Realms is an independently held company like Valve and id Software.

I remember reading that 3D Realms made something close to a 100 million USD from all of the games they released. Assuming they know how to invest their money, they could probably spend the rest of this decade and the most of the next decade making DNF and still be fine financially.

IIRC, since they already had licensed the Unreal engine, don't they automatically get free upgrades? Like to the Unreal engine 3? That almost would be worth it to delay the game another year to have access to a start of the art graphics engine.

If ever there were an appropriate time to say BOHICA... this would be it. Changing engines seven and a half years into development and starting from scratch yet again is just a kick in the nuts to the DNF fans. Can you imagine construction workers that were like that? Just when they almost finish the wooden house, brick becomes popular so they tear it down and start over... then concrete becomes popular and they tear it down and start over... then iron becomes popular and they tear it down and start over... then steel becomes popular and they tear it down and start over... then a new strong, lightweight polymer becomes popular and they tear it down and start over... ad nauseam. Seriously, they're going to have to get over the fact that DNF won't stay cutting edge until the end of time and just release the damned thing.

"One of these days, Alice, one of these days..." (Wow, a bad joke referring to a TV show that first aired almost 50 years ago. I'm sure that'll go over well in the HL2.net forums... :|)

... if this news is true.

George Broussard has said time and time again that they've finalized the DNF tech. I don't think this story is true. 3Drealms has rewritten 90% of the Unreal Engine code.....the only thing they've really kept is the netcode. I just cannot believe they would change now. I call bullshit.

Man, I really really couldn't care less about this game anymore. I feel sorry for the people who've been waiting for this the whole time. I remember when it first changed to the Unreal engine and that must've been at least 4 years ago?
I hope for the fans' sake it won't be another Daikatana...

Language, el Chi. There might be minors present...

I remember seeing the video and being pretty impressed.
'Course, that was God-knows-how-long ago. Few years at least. DNF is a running joke- it'll either end up canned, released as one of the greatest games ever made, or released as NeoDaikatana.

What are you on about? I didn't use one single swear word... What?

...yeah, I did. I thought the whole Daikatana thing was so ingrained in the community's mentality that everyone would get that instantly :o

Didn't it take them ages to make Max Payne aswell? I remember seeing a video of it on a demo disc about 2+ years before it was even released. But Max Payne didn't have anything to live up to, Duke Nukem does, so i guess they wanna get it right.
