Ive enver tried except once at a Blockbuster dumpster. I ws wondering-is it legal? I would think so cause if they dont want the stuff, then Ill take it. When and where should I look?

well...yes. Ive heard you can find some pretty cool stuff in there...

I'm not sure of the laws...but Judge Mathis says it's okay! Seriously, if they've discarded it, they're not going to press any charges. If they do, any reasonable judge would throw it out in a second.

...oh, and by the way...don't do that! It's unsanitary! Ewwww

fish and chip shops are always a winner, can get fish thats only a day or so old. decent meal enough.

depends where you go. Its only dirty if you go to grocery or food stores. People I know have scored free games and videos-in working condition- from video and game stores cause theyll sometimes throw out old stock to make room for new.

Was it this guy who told you? :p

I'm not sure about the legallity of it. I know they don't like it, but as far as I know it isn't actually illegal.

Yeah! And all they had to give up was their personal dignity!

Some of the best stuff you can find in bins are HIV, gonorrhea, the flu and a host of other diseases.

Its illegal to put stuff in other people bins over here in the UK, dunno about taking it out though.

Dont diseases only exist in bins with rotten food/chemicals/other crap in them? One place you NEVER search is hospital bins though!

Well I'm not to proud, I was walking by our dumpster in the parking lot where I live, and lo and behold, some dumbass had thrown out a stereo mini system worth ~ 200$ and there was nothing wrong with it except the cd player doesn't work to well, but all I need it for is the auxillary plug in so I can hook it up to my computer. I think I lost some of my girlfriends respect that day...oh well, it was a hot score.

I've found some great stuff in dumpsters. We're talking old lab equipment and even perfectly fine lasers; Thousands of dollars worth of stuff.

Well I cant see why It would be illegal considering your taking away the rubbish for free.

Well there may be laws against it because people throw away bank receipts, pay stubs, etc...stuff with personal information on them. Don't want people stealing identities simply by rummaging through the trash, now do we?

My friend use to dig around in the garbage of Circuit City, he would find all sorts of useful stuff and he made several computers out of it.

me and my dad did that once ... he said "son ... we're going dumpster diving ... so we did ... and we got a TV ...

Ya the one time I tried it at Blockbuster i found a porn video with college chicks! But I was too afraid to take it home cause my parents would find it lol it was like 2 yrs ago though.

What we really need is a monetary value placed on one's dignity. If the items one stands to aquire are worth more than one's dignity, then one can just poke one's tongue out at anyone who makes fun of one...

[EDIT]: Wait, Blockbusters have porno tapes where you are? They distinctly make a point of saying that they don't, here in Australia...

You can find everything but the kitchen sink dumpster diving!

I'm lying! one time I found a kitchen sink!

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure its illegal and if not its frowned upon by most businesses. not to mention the fact that if you're looking for stuff, you'll probably throw a bunch of stuff out of the dumpster and leave it there, making someone else pick it up.

one mans trash is another mans treasure

im am pretty sure its not illigal and if it is, who cares. I seriously doubt that a business would call the police for looking at their trash, and if they do, run as fast as you can.

Time to take a ride over to Blockbuster... the dumpster, that is.

I think it is illegal, my friend and I were digging through some garbages behind a bunch of stores and a cop car came by and asked us what we were doing, we told him we were just passing by and he told us not to do this again.

Might be different in different states and countries, but it's probably illegal. Just seems a bit sketchy. Betcha it pisses off the store owners too...

If I were a store owner & I caught you looking through my dumpster for stuff, I would be angry. You are trying to take something that I could have sold to you. True I shouldn't have thrown it out in the first place, but I'd still be angry. I can very well take it back and try to sell it again.

Often times Technology stores will have old technology that noone will buy in there, so if anyone wants a 15 GIG 5400 rpm hardrive let me know.

Blockbuster doesnt rent or sell Porno's. So i dont see how you found one in there dumpster

Dignity Shmignity, If i found a $200 stereo in the trash I would take it right away, I dont see much wrong with it

Video shops dont throw out anything of intrest... shop assistaints take all!

:D

The blockbusters here in Florence,KY used to edit their freakin videos!! (no joke, there was a lawsuit)

AFAIK, most places there are no laws about dumpster diving. If it's on public property (i.e. you don't need to jump walls, go through fences, etc.) it's okay. of course local laws may differ, I'm just saying the majority of localities in the US. make sure you don't take personally identifying information, that mgiht be trouble.

many stores have sealed dumpsters and trash compactors to prevent this.
I've always wanted to cruise around the industrial/commercial district in my town and see what I could find, but I never got around to it :\

And I agree, dignity shmignity

Ive never seen porn videos at blockbuster except that 1 i found in their trash
