Quite the awesome interview. I love his enthusiasm and imitations. Some really great points discussed here.

Single-Player: I love the idea of not just building up your base a lot and just going to kill. There were times I got really bored doing that in the SC1 Single Player. When they threw something odd into the mix...Protect the Zerg Base from the Protoss, Infiltrate a facility with a limited group of units, etc...that was really fun!

Challenge: A great way to get people to 'train' for more skilled maneuvers in competitive SC. There are maps out there that will help you with it, but nothing really there to help 'train' you. This is a VERY good addition.

Last but DEFINITELY not least...

Beta REALLY REALLY SOON.

**** YES.

I'm so, so glad that the campaigns are going to actually be interesting and have more than a story-based difference from basic skirmish matches. The lava level sounds like a ton of fun :D

I've been paying attention to SC2 since it's announcement and every time Browder opens his mouth I just wanna get my hands on it more and more. I wasn't *really* excited for the singleplayer stuff until now.

Lots of cool little details in that vid that I hadn't heard before.

There is actually a level in the original StarCraft like that. Although, it's not in the campaign. It was one of the default Use Map Settings maps that was released. King Of The Hill or something I think? Not sure, it's in there though. The counter goes down, and whatever units are on the lower level are destroyed when the timer runs out....basically the same thing, but probably more fun :D

Sounds awesome :D I wonder if you could simulate a lava effect by having repeated explosions covering the entire surface of the lower level? Or would that not be possible in Staredit1?

Doable. Spawn a bunch of tanks/firebats then at that exact moment, kill em. MUwahahahha!

Ah yeah, I remember seeing that a couple days ago. More powerful and cheaper nukes....you can't really go wrong.

Yeah it's part of making the ghost a more useful unit to invest in.

Can't wait to see the explosion of SC2 gameplay footage once the beta is out.

God the nuke in SC1 was f*cking useless. Seriously, 600 or so resources plus 8 food plus a Ghost plus cloak researched plus one less potential scanner plus science facility plus covert ops and after all that you have to actually sneak him in somewhere past all the photon cannons and spore colonies and missile turrets and then wait 30 seconds for the nuke to launch properly and if your Ghost is detected before the launch is completed the nuke DISAPPEARS.

Hate.

Agree. Way too many short-comings. The only thing it's good for is, "This is how fkn bad you're getting raped."

And it doesn't even destroy half the buildings. If you even manage to get your Ghost into a large base that for some reason has no detectors in the first place.

It's always fun to rape your friends with nukes on a LAN though.

I knew that was coming >:|

TBH, I never really used nukes to begin with..just in Comp matches...even newbs I played with easily found/killed my Ghosts.

I wonder what the timeline is for, "very, very soon" when he mentions the beta.

I'm guessing September at the earliest.

Well they're hoping for a December release, and he said they beta for 4-6 months, so anything past August will make it a 2010 game. C'mon Blizz, just release the beta. It's meant to be tested.
I say we'll get it next week.

You can tell from the interviews that they really, really want the beta out ASAP. It's the Battle.net stuff holding them up at the moment.

Stupid bnet!

They are doing whatever they can to support the massive amounts of players that will be playing the Beta....lets hope they get this sorted soon, I WANNA SEE SOME GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE. * I have VERY low hopes of getting into the Beta... :(*

Yeah 40-50k out of how many who would have signed up?

I'm not hopeful for a first round beta key but maybe by the fourth or fifth round I'll get lucky. I'm hoping they'll go for an open beta at some stage, I mean the system will have to handle all those who want in on the beta and heaps more right?

Yeah, I bet the open beta will be the last month to get the server loads down. Until then, I'll be browsing a LOT of Youtube.
