Does anyone know if I get the DVD version of halflife2 wether I've just spent the last couple of DAYS wasting my time downloading it through steam.

I was contemplating getting it through steam but figured in the long run i would rather have the DVD.

If you get the DVD can you still download it through steam? And if i buy the DVD can I just put in my CD Key and play it (having downloaded it) without even touching the DVD?

The collectors edition comes with a DVD. I would imagine you can get the DVD and just enter the cd key.

I think you have to do something with the DVD/CD to activate it. Otherwise you could just use any CD Key.

Yeah that somthing is move the DVD outta tha way so you can get the key. If you preloaded it all you have to do is enter a valid key.

Most likely yes, just enter the key and you're good to go :p

Yes you can buy the CE and just enter the cd key into steam to unlock hl2.

In Steam, go to "Browse Games" and at the bottom you'll see a button that says, "Register a game I already own." Click on that and you're prompted to enter your CD key. Enter your CD key from the boxed copy and you're all set.

Im very confused...
when i started hl2 preloading yesterday...ive got 256kbit - i dont see possible how today, through night turned off pc, can pre loading be COMPLETELY done...my steamapp folder says its 3.42GB big and preloading status says a locked copy of hl2 is on your pc...
but steam monitor during downloading said its downloading 1043MB of space and now it disappeared completely saying steam isnt currently updating any games...
So...should i wait till it begins phase 2 by itself or something got screwed up over here ?

The total amount I have is 3.59gb and that is all phases (1-5)

Three lots of base source and two lots of cs...

BTW.....

Isn't it worth buying the Gold version thru Steam, as you get all the 'Stuff' from the CE. That way VU won't get the cash. I am sure this is the way most games will be delivered in the future. Publishers won't be needed. vALVE have always been a few steps ahead of the competition anyways....!
