My friend wants to buy a DVD burner, any recommendations?.. LG? Lite-On? Samsung?

Nec or BenQ.

I have a NEC 3500AG (16X Dual layer) and I'm very happy with it :)
BenQ tend to win the tests.

LG is decent but I would prefer lite-on just because they have great performance while keeping prices very competitive.

Plextor probably makes the best drives but they are very expensive.

My top three list would be
1)Plextor
2)pioneer
3)Lite-on

Lite-one is the best performance price IMO and thats why I would buy them over pioneer or plextor, unless the pioneer or plextor has something the lite-on doesnt.

At the moment I am running a 16x LG dvd-rom and havent had any problems with it. I noticed It takes a bit longer to read burned disks then some of my other non-lg drives but Its only 1-2 seconds and nothing to get worried about. I havent had any experience with their burners though.

I myself like the Hewlet Packard DVD burners...get's the job done, can burn a whole DVD in about an hour, sometime longer

Lite-on, Sony, TDK...Plextor are all great drives. ;)
If I bought a DVD burner today, I'd buy the 12x/8x TDK DVD burner for 110$ retail at compusa.

You didn't mention LG ;\

So the top three list would be :
1) TDK (I trust Asus) ;)
2) Plextor
3) Lite-on

Thank u all for helping me decide
