I was just wandering could i burn my DVD files onto seperate CD's in otherwise turn the DVD into 6 CD's (or however many CD's it is) is it possible, as i dont have a DVD-ROM so i can't play the DVD disc.

yes, use the steam backup function, it will let you select the backup to cd option.

I didn't get my HL2 from steam i got it retail on a DVD will it still work.

Or you could just spend the tiny amount of money it requires and buy a DVD drive?

Tiny amount! im still @ school no job and i have to save my little money for christmas so i want to be able to play it off CD's.

if you notice when you install the game it puts the files in the same place getting it from steam would put it... and yes the option to backup is also available to us

you need a valid dvd/cd in your drive
bruned cds are filtered out by securom

$30 bucks for an internal DVD drive, go to newegg.com and order one.

A DVD drive is all of £20. That's all. £20.

EDIT - And, really, a DVD drive IS necessary for PC gaming these days, especially in the UK. It's not a matter of "Oh, I don't need one". You do. The last dozen games I've bought have all been DVD-only, as is Half-Life 2 here. Asking how to play that on CD, when it isn't a CD game is, quite frankly, extremely odd.

Meh, i dont want to get one now because i want to get a DVD burner at christmas so thats why i want to play it now without having to buy a DVD drive that i will use for just a month.
