Since I got my new PC about a month ago, twice now the DVD Drive has refused to register, despite still receiving power. When I press the "Eject" button, the tray goes out and straight back in again and I can hear the disk spinning.

Both times it has happened, I opened up the side of the case and made sure the wires were secure and it worked again.

However now that it has happened twice, I don't want it to happen again, any ideas? Is it the Drive or the cables?

Try updating firmware. If its a SATA drive update your SATA-link control drive and chipset drivers. If DVD came with software suite install em.

Good Luck.

so it doesnt show up in my computer correct? ive had this problem before and i fixed it by deleting a file in the registry. im at work right now but ill find it again and respond back here.

Try a different SATA cable and see if that does anything?

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but it seemed to fix itself for a while when I updated the firmware but it now seems to have come back with a vengeance.

It shows up in Device Manager. And it shows up in My Computer until I click on the drive which causes Windows Explorer to crash. D: About 1 in 5 restarts will allow the drive to work normally but otherwise all it does is eject then go back in. If a disc is put in there, it sounds almost like it is reading the disc but then just goes quiet.

@giant384: I was wondering if you'd found the registry file yet?
