my DVD drive no longer wants to be detected by windows.....

HELP ME!!! its plugged in and everything, and worked before ;(;(;(
if i cant make it work, then its bye bye HL2:CE :(

Reinstall drivers.

Same thing happened to one of my hard drives because I rebotted to fast. It stopped getting recognized. So I just opened up my case unplugged the drive then plugged it back in again and rebooted. Then it worked fine again.

What is the drive set as in the bios?

I assume you've restarted and it still doesn't see it.

Dl new drivers and install them or have windows reinstall drivers from the device manager or go to the add/remove hardware program.

Unplug your IDE cable, and plug it back in again. Do the same for the molex plug as well. If that doesn't work, try another IDE cable, as the cable you currently have could be bad.

Was the drive making any unusual noises (whining, excess spinning, etc) before it stopped working?

:dozey: Sometimes when I install games on my DVD drive it makes like these screeching noises. Is this indication of something bad?

Yes :dork:

yay, i plugged it into a diff cable and now it is detected an all... but it doesnt.. erm... work?

Go into 'Computer Management'. I'm not sure how to directly do this so just search for it in the Help and Support and it will come up. When its up, look at the left column and click on 'Disk Management'. This will show you what Hard Drives and any DVD/CD-ROMS you currently have in your computer. There you can choose to rescan disks or refresh under the action bar and some other stuff. I once had a problem with my slave hard drive that just stores files I might use again etc. I went to this and it had my hard drive there but with a little error symbol on it. I right clicked it and clicked 'Reactivate disk' or something like that and its now ok. Good luck

it works!!! :D

kinda slowly, but it works nontheless!

yes i suppose so, seeing as i know as much about computer hardware as does George W Bush about politics
