I have only a CD rom in my computer, I see it like this until PC games start coming in DVD format I won't change, I have 3 regular stand alone DVD players, 1 is Pro Scan to go with my Panasonic TAU

I only have a CD drive. Im only in high school so i cant exactly afford top comp gear. I will be pushing it running HL2 on my little comp. All this talk of people going out and buying Radeon 8000 pros just for half life 2 is making me depressed:(:(

hmph. /me slumps off to find something to kick in

Radeon 8000 pros? Did there even exist a such thing, and why would you want a low end video card anyways? I am sure you mean the 9800 pros.. Get a summer job and save up for one if you really eager to play HL2 in all it's glory my friend.

Get a summer job, get a car, and get laid. And totally forget about HL2. It will be there when you get back. If you even care at that point.

In fact, all of you go get laid. Now if possible.

I have 3 kids and one on the way.. I think I got enough getting 'laid' for a while.

I wish that hl2 would come on a dvd, if its more then 2 cds, i don't like having to switch disks during installs or while playing the game.

Unfortunately, the time is not yet where game developers will release their games on DVD alone, they would simply lose too many customers.

I agree with Klepto, Dave and, specifically, Mountain Man. The presumption that "if you don't have a DVD drive means that your PC isn't up to HL2 specs" is bogus. I have a stand-alone and I'd rather watch them in big screen. Though, I'm not saying I won't get one when game publishers/devs start leaning to the DVD side of the fence.

I agree with gMANiac, Dave, Klepto, and Mountain Man as well. I don't have DVD on my computer but I do have a standalone, and my computer is certainly capable of running HL2 on close to if not the highest settings. Ill certainly get a DVD player when the switch is made from CD to DVD but until then I consider it a useless upgrade.

Personally, I'm waiting for that killer app before dropping any cash on a DVD-ROM. Granted, if Half-Life 2 were released exclusively on DVD-ROM then it would be that killer app and I'd get a drive in a heart beat. Until then, I'm perfectly content with having to swap CD's once during installation.

Then let it be heard.. If its going to take a big name game to get people to change to DVD's, then HL2 would be a prime game to do it. DVD games are much better then multi cd games. We are behind the times with consoles in this department, let's catch up damn it. My computer is alot better then a PS2 or an Xbox and so are my games, so why should I have to swap cd's during install :)

Should start another poll.. what format would you like to see HL2 in, 1 DVD or 4 CD's ?.. someone else start it though because I don't want to look 'retarded' as someone once called me.

Actually, we're ahead of consoles because we can install the entire game to the hard drives making CD swapping a moot point, and accessing a hard drive is a heck of lot faster than reading off a CD- or DVD-ROM.

And you really think Half-Life 2 is going to need 4 CD's? I'd be surprised if it needed more than 2.

Considering the length and data required by games lately it won't take long before most games will require 4 or more cd's.. good games anyways. HL2 will probably be 2 or 3 cd's, but HL3 will be probably bigger , so start now and release it on a DVD so more people will use them and we can say good bye to disk swapping like we did with floppy disks.

And yes having the game installed on the HD is better then running off the disk, but at least it's just one disk. PS1 games started coming out in 2 disks because they weren't capable of reading dvd's.. thus the ps2 was born. PC games only come on cd, and now they are coming out in multi cd sets.. let's stop this disk swapping to install games once and for all and put them on DVD if they won't fit on a CD.

I dont understand why people are still posting in the topic. Its obvious valve arnt going to release it exclusively on DVD. I mean for christ sake if they are going to all that length to make steam to sell their games why wouldent they make CDs.

Just give it a rest. Its a pointless topic, Sorry to the creator of the thread and ne of the participants. I have nothing against ne of u. It is just a silly thread

But the point, having to swap discs a single time during installation is not that big of a deal at all and hardly good reason to push forward with a given technology.

i got me LG DVD cd-r Samsung and pioneer A05 DVD-R... as for half-life2 having 4 cd's... thats just WAY to much lol... i say at aleast 2 cd's lol ^_^.... it just should have a big install like Mafia had and GTA:VC or Enter The Matrix :bounce:.... one big install then play with only one cd thats about it :p....
