DX versions

if i got it well, the game will be playable with different directX versions, right ?
will we able to change directly under the settings wich version set we want to use , for example if we want to get better fps with a low end graphic card (this obviously assumes all previous "features" of a given direct x version are always present in the next version) ?
or do we have to "hard install" the DX version we want tu use with HL2 ?
 
Games require a certain version of DX to be installed to work.
Some games like HL2 have different code paths and supported features that they program for. Most games will require you to use only that path but those few games (HL2) may allow you to disable a feature or two or perhaps use a different render path by command line entered in the console or at the end of the shortcut.

that cleared up quite well what i had in mind. thanks
 
Yeah, you'll probalby have to have dx9.0b installed, and then it's will auto-choose the best path (in it's opinion) for you, and you cna force a diffrent one.
